Everything before Children of the Earth was pretty rubbish, but that special redeemed it for me.

Torchwood is probably the most hit and miss show I've ever watched. On the one hand, it wasn't very good. On the other hand in a few very select episodes it hit the nail on the head.
Overall for me, it wasn't worth watching. The characters were 2d as hell, and RTD writes shows with all the empathy of a kid with a magnifying glass sat on an ants nest, to the point where he makes his character act out of character to either get his points across or to create drama and tragedy.
To me, that utterly and irrevocably breaks a show.
