I'm 16 years old, and am going into my third year of high school and am only now learning how to touch type and was curious about how many of my fellow escapists know how. So, I ask you, do you know how to touch type?

Yep. Took me a while to learn, but now I'm quite a natural now, if I do say so myself.

It took me about 2 weeks in a high school computer class to memorize all the letters.

I spent all my extra free time playing tanks with my friend.

And nowadays, I type anywhere from 40-90 wpm.

Ehm seeing as I don't know what you mean by "touch type", i'm going to go with a no.

Do you mean typing without looking at the keyboard?

Sort of. I have to look at the keyboard, but know where all the keys are.

Hey, I just touch typed that. Looks like a yes from me.

I don't, no. I think I need it though. I've got a laptop and all the keys are flat, it makes it hard to type quickly without making mistakes.

I used to be proficient to some degree, but now just tend to be lazy and use any finger for any key... So I know how, I'm just very out of practice (and can't be bothered setting aside the time to retrain my fingers).

Edit: to all the people asking what it is, can you not use google?

With a standard keyboard I can touch type without any real problems, but with laptop keyboards, etc I usually end up making mistakes

By the time they tried teaching me to touch-type in one of my GCSE subjects, I'd already been using computers fairly heavily for about six years and had developed my own style and habits. Can't teach an old dog new tricks, etc, so I stuck with the way I'd always done it. My measured copy-typing speed is over 60wpm, and it's considerably faster when I'm typing my own thoughts as they occur. Like this for example. Except, not today 'cos I cut the end of my middle finger and it hurts too much to go at that speed.

I picked up touch typing in middle school and I'm still pretty good at it today.

Yeah, I agree. I'm used to having my keyboard slightly elevated, and my keys the same way.

Oh right. Well I can do it, but only for things that I type very often, like site adresses and passwords and certain words or phrases that I use a lot.
