OK guys, I know it's a topic that is a beaten horse, but in #buttgate thread I saw several opinions addressing the issue of communication between Blizzard and community, and that current outrage of counter-removalists (to which I count myself) is actually a signal to Blizzard that community interaction is a bad thing. IMO, this was actually the case of Blizzard themselves oddly misunderstanding both their community and game characters. In multiplayer FPS when coming to the map a character stop being a character, and becomes a player avatar, which, in a perfect case should be able to perform as complex and diverse interactions with other players as possible (to which pose system is a great asset), and aesthetics and logic of those interaction are devised by PLAYER, not by a CHARACTER. Otherwise there should be no careful campers trying to use aforementioned Tracer for ambushes, because it would obviously be out of character for her too. Buuut enough of me using this opportunity to express my opinion, let's get to the point. So, of Escapist forums, who's on what side. Which group is larger - counter-removalists or removalists? Let's find out!

I don't much care about it, but let's be fair about this the real reason they removed it is because it's a place-holder pose that several characters have and they were already planning to replace it at some point down the line, people forget that it's a beta and it makes sense that stuff like that would be subject to change until much later than in-game animations or balance.

I mean it's not like Blizz is against sexualizing the character otherwise she wouldn't have that skin-tight suit and Widowmaker still exists, so it's a non-issue, it's a typical change for a beta and nothing more.

I feel it's kind of impossible to keep a level head in this matter. Sex has become this thing now in gaming that is instantly overanalyzed. What I assume was just a simple, fun, sexy pose has become this enormous, not-fun mass of frustration. The people who are for the removal or don't care are frustrated by the people who care so much about leaving it in, and the people against the removal are frustrated that the developers, from their perspective, are being forced by the PC crowd to remove it just to keep the peace.

And that when if this removal had nothing sexual in nature no one would've cared at all.

I guess I'm on the side of the "counter-removalists", if that's what you want to call it, because there is this sense now in gaming that sexy just can't be fun or lighthearted anymore. It's just this overly serious topic now that needs to be endlessly discussed whenever it rears its head.

The core of the problem here is that it's not a binary issue, a simple yes/no thing. People aren't just for or against the pose, most object to the reasons for the removal.

I don't mind the pose. I don't mind it not being there either. I do think Blizzard can change their product as they see fit while it's in development. However, I would be annoyed if a change like that was implemented over one silly complaint. And that's (IMO) what ticked off a lot of people - not the change itself, but(t) rather the apparent reasoning for it.

Personally, I didn't find the pose "controversial" or "demeaning" or whatever else. I read the original complaint and found it to be far more sexist than the pose ever was, or at the very least it twisted the context of the pose and the charater waaaay out of shape. Overall, I'm just saddened that all it takes is a whiff of potential "controversy" for developers to turn tail and run. I don't like mob rule having that sort of influence in the industry...

I suppose I'm on the side of removal, because Blizzard wanted to remove it and I don't see anything wrong with removing it. And because I find a lot of the complaints on the other side to be either childish or completely ignoring Blizzard's past behaviour in regards to making changes to their games.

I have played Blizzard games for a long long long long time and it doesn't strike me as particularly out of character for them. And the idea that they're quaking in their boots from some imaginary SJW Inquisition is just laughable.

Initially I didn't give much of a shit, but from all the crying about it being removed- now I'm like, whatever. If all it takes to get someone to not buy the game is to have one less digital asspose to gape at then I don't give a single solitary fuck.

...you know, I can't help shake the feeling this poll is going to be awfully biased in it's responses. Can't quite put my finger on why.

[sub]Probably because of the enormous outrage still surrounding the issue, but that's the easy answer.[/sub]

Personally, I don't give a shit. It's Blizzard's game, so Blizzard can do whatever the fuck they want. They could've claimed they're removing it because they 'Hate that Wrex Brogan fuckhead quite immensely' and I still wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I guess I support removing the pose because it was probably going to be replaced anyway and the pose was pretty crap to begin with, being pretty much a placeholder and all. I don't really give too much of a shit either way. It's Blizzard's game, they can change or keep what they like. However, I don't think Blizzard should have even addressed the original comment officially. Had they just quietly patched it out and replaced it, I don't this would have even been an issue. That comment would never see the light of day again and knickers would have remained untwisted. Basically this whole thing is blown stupendously out

I don't mind about the pose, it is a non-issue. I think its fine. Removing it is also fine...

I think this whole thing is blown out of proportion. The hashtag #_gate is so overused it has lost all meaning.

I don't fucking care. Blizzard didn't handle it like shit. One person made a complaint thread, and blizzard simply responded with ' yeah we think it's dumb too anyway' and changed it a few days later.
That's fucking it.
But people are going through lengths to not only ignore what the devs say to spin their own narrative but are accusing them of being cowards because they agreed with happened to be from a smallgroup of people.

People are only accusing Blizzard of fucking up because they don't want to admit to themselves that they took a very low brow comment and response incident and blew up horribly over it. So now the reason for the rage is CLEARLY all on Blizzard and how they responded and not on us for being so trigger happy to get mad.

Devs needs to start putting "Politically Correct" options right at the start of their game, and if you choose it all characters wear potato bags so no one gets offended any more.
... actually I'm sure someone will find that too sexualized none the less, or somehow disrespectful to potatoes.

I care this much about it: none.

Though I clearly cared enough to click this thread, select 'I don't care about this stuff', and then post this here post... So I suppose I care a few percent enough about not caring about this latest pointless blip of Internetz Drama.

Keep the pose - fine. Drop the pose - fine. Keep the art/design - fine. Change the art/design (known officially as the 'un-wedgie/what the hell's that strap doing there' option) - fine.

I don't care much about the pose itself and whether or not it was removed, but the reaction to it was just absurd.

It's always butt slaps and titty jiggles that these "anti-censorship" crusaders choose as their hill to die on and it just doesn't reflect well on gamers to be honest. I am not convinced that this "sex-negative" politically correct brigade is coming to take sexy women out of video games especially since Overwatch is chock full of them.

I don't think Blizzard handled the situation very well but I doubt anyone could have. This whole "political correctness has gone mad" craze needs to end.

Honestly as someone who doesn't care about TF2-likes, overwatch looks mildly amusing.
While there is too much fanservice in gaming, it's mostly T, and barely A. The pose is fine.

What do I vote if I think the pose on its own was okay but also think it should still be replaced (along with all the other "over the shoulder" poses, yes, including the males) because having characters with their backs to the camera screws with the composition of the victory screen?

I am a counter-revolutionary and I pledge not to rest until the misguided revolutions of the so-called "oppressed proletariat" have been put, with as much brutal force as possible, to restore law and order.

By which I mean, I am technically a counter-removalist in that I thought the original complaint was misguided codswallop, but overall I don't particularly care and see this "incident" as simply another battlefield for two equally terrible sides to have a slapfight over.

I don't care.

I did think the pose was silly, but for very different reasons. She looks as she's trying to check if there's toilet paper sticking out of her clothes.

I also think the 'place holder pose' thing sounds reasonable. It is a boring and basic pose that's used for other characters well. If Blizzard can come up with something more unique that suits the character - great. The game is still in beta, so now is the time to figure details like that out.
