Voted "don't care". Thought the pose was fine, though it's worth a (minor) eye-roll that the trousers cling to the butt so incredibly tightly we see every contour. But not on the blokes o'course.

You see Blizzard's decisions are business based towards product that they are selling, and as such that product and the decisions made regarding that product are all fair game for praise or criticism.

Right! Just like the inclusion of the pose in the first place.

I didn't like the removal of the pose because the removal was baseless. The original request said that Tracer's personality doesn't support her striking a pose like this, when we don't have enough information of her personality to make that claim.

The removal of the pose was done by the developers. Are you saying the developers don't know their own characters well enough to make such a determination within their own game?

It was also the developers that gave her this pose in the first place.

They might have been nudged toward changing their minds, but there was at least some point in which they decided to give Tracer this pose.

I just don't like their reasoning. The whole basis of "It doesn't fit her personality" is bullshit, because it does.

Now if they had simply come out and said, "New Beta patch notes: New poses add for several characters. These poses have replaced some placeholder poses on some characters." Then nobody would have said a word about Tracer's "over the shoulder" pose. (im not calling it the butt pose anymore)

Yeah, and I was a writer who put in a scene in a story inspired by Bible Black and thought it was a good idea and not just stupid sexual pandering. People change their minds on things. Needless to say, that never made it into the final draft.

You don't agree with them on the character. Well I'm just going to say that I think they, the people who freaking created her, have a bit more authority on what is or is not in character for her than you do.

I'm not saying that I know more about the character than they do. I'm saying that the original poster had no basis on saying that pose was out of character for Tracer.

Now what I will say, again, is that Blizzard could have done this in a way that doesn't result in this drama. A simple new patch that added a couple of poses, and replaced other poses (including the "over the shoulder" pose) would have solved this issue and not caused any drama. Don't even mention it in the patch notes. Like I stated above simply say, "New Beta patch notes: New poses add for several characters. These poses have replaced some placeholder poses on some characters."

BAM! Done.

"Over the Shoulder" Tracer is gone. And nobody would be the wiser. It's simple PR dynamics really. One would have to wonder if they did it this way to cause drama around the game as release gets closer and closer.

I just would have wanted them to handle it better, because the reasoning they gave just feels bad to me. It could have been done in a way that would have been more subtle.

Who knows, they could have even added to that pose to make it completely different.

Imagine this. The pose starts with the Over the Shoulder pose we have seen, but only for a moment as Tracer quickly whips around to face the camera landing into a shooting stance with both guns pointed directly at the camera. Grr so feisty.

Actually to be fair, they did state that they were going to give Tracer a replacement pose. So there is nothing to say that they can't just add to that pose. Hell even a zoomed in camera angle to avoid showing her butt will allow them to recycle all the work that went into making the pose in the first place.

Can't knock them if they truly feel the pose was not in their character's nature (though drawing her bum a touch more realistically may have fixed any perception of ~sexuality~ *shrug*).

The pose was a bit cliche, uninspired and made me roll my eyes a bit but it was far from egregious. It's removal is a perfectly legitimate way to respond to feedback if the developer felt the criticism was valid.

This is one of the biggest non-troversies since... erm damn these things happen all the time but they really aren't that memorable... Oh yeah the lack of localisation for DOAX3, it's the worst one since that.

I don't really care about the game at all though, this controversy is literally the only thing I know about the game. The pose doesn't really bother me though, I think the bigger problem is how her spandex is giving her a wedgie. It always bugs me in games how nearly every female character seems to have their outfit glued to their buttcrack, even when male characters can wear the same clothes and suddenly they aren't so form fitting.

Can't say I care too deeply about it. I will say that its funny as fuck watching Blizzard faceplant into a controversy, when they tripped over themselves by removing the butt shot in order to (wait for it) avoid being dragged into a controversy!

In all seriousness as the gentlemen above have mentioned, 4 damn topics as of this topic guys....that really says alot. But if I had to pick one of the options it'd be the "Don't give a frag"

I mean honestly this whole situation seems annoyingly cooked up judging by how even though they KNOW this whole thing has exploded and turned in to quite a big deal for some reason, they still pretty much just ignore everything as of yet and don't tell us what's up with Tracer then.

There wasn't anything remotely "sexual" about the pose as far as I saw, it's the outfit that does it for people. I mean it usually always is the outfit. When I was playing Mass Effect 2 I thought it was Miranda herself entirely that was causing the sex appeal in the conversations but right after I put that full armor DLC costume on her she suddenly looked like she was competent enough in combat to take along, and all that sex appeal kinda just washed away. It also helped me focus better so that's an added bonus.

Similar to Tracer, that spandex wedgie is the only thing remotely sexual about that pose, or her in general in my opinion.Seriously, within a minute of hearing her voice my ears exploded, I mean she sounds fun and all but her voice also makes her sound like the kind of person I'd need hearing aids to properly talk to without my eardrums going on shark week. For a year.

As for the whole "Buttgate" thing. I think we're all just hoping this doesn't explode GamerGate style completely.

I swear to God it's like there's a new pisstaking contest like every time I think that everyone is relatively calm and we can all start enjoying things slightly more normally. While I don't disagree with and generally approve of the high salt levels here, it doesn't take a "True Believer" to suffer from confirmation bias. If nothing else, at least we have April Fools come around once a year so people have an opportunity to think critically about the shit they see and read.

Indeed, we've pretty much evolved along the lines that a false positive is more beneficial, so our minds tend to favour them. Seeing patterns in noise isn't just for conspiracy theorists in poorly-written movies.

At that point, you might as well say you know their character better than they do. Because they disagree. It's their character and their game. You don't have to like their justification, but you can't reasonably say they're wrong.

Tracer's butt was our last, best hope for freedom of speech. By the end of 2016, we knew it had failed. But in so doing, it became something greater. As the war expanded, it became our last, best hope.... For memes.

I don't much care about it, but let's be fair about this the real reason they removed it is because it's a place-holder pose that several characters have and they were already planning to replace it at some point down the line, people forget that it's a beta and it makes sense that stuff like that would be subject to change until much later than in-game animations or balance.

I mean it's not like Blizz is against sexualizing the character otherwise she wouldn't have that skin-tight suit and Widowmaker still exists, so it's a non-issue, it's a typical change for a beta and nothing more.

Then all they had to do was say so.
