Throughout my adolescent gaming career I began to see some titles that I enjoyed made by the same developers, from that they earned a sense of respect and I went out and bought the game because of the developer, while not knowing anything of the game (my pre-internet days, I didn?t get to use the internet for personal/non-school use until I was about 15).

Notable companies from my childhood memory include: Westwood (original command and conquer series + Dune series), Squaresoft (JRPG god), Nintendo (1st party developments and only on some series i.e. the SNES Marios were where they suckered me in), Rare (of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark fame, not to mention Banjo-Kazooie) and Sony Computer Entertainment (I place that there VERY LOOSELY as a majority of my PS games were SCEI).

Years on and now I tend to research my games before purchase rather then impulse buys. Lately I?ve found there?s a ?lack of trust? between gamers and developers, as even my beloved Square Enix has pushed out some mediocre titles.

I ask you all this; Is there a developer out there that you trust / mainly makes ?good? games?

To some degrees, yes. I'll never just take something as good because it has a certain company's name on the box but it does definitely make something a lot more appealing. I'll even venture beyond genres I usually enjoy if the game in question is made by a company I've enjoyed numerous games from in the past.

It, of course, works the other way as well. If a company is known to me as one that puts out things I don't enjoy I will be more skeptical even of something that looks appealing.

Blizzard. I expect them to make high quality games and take forever to make them.
I've also started to expect the world out of Team Ico. Though I really shouldn't. I mean, just because they made two of the best PS2 games of all time doesn't really prove much.
I trust Paradox to release extremely buggy games that are insanely good when modded.

I trust Activision to release a Call of Duty game every year, and I trust consumers to buy lots of those. I trust Koei to release a Dynasty game every year. I trust EA to release a set of sports game every year.

Valve. BioWare. Bethesda. My big 3, let's break it down, Valve: L4D (1+2), Hl (1+2+episodes), CS (1.6 and Source) Portal (Hopefully 2). BioWare: Jade Empire (DAMN IT MAKE ME A SEQUEL), Kotor, Mass Effect (1+2), Dragon Age Origins. Bethesda: Elder Scrolls (III and IV) and Fallout 3. I kind of trust Obsidian, I still need more to go on before I give them my "OMG it's by *insert name* I will buy it regardless of if I'm interested in it at all" Stamp of trust. Also Sucker Punch is working it's way back into my heart.

Valve are yet to fail me.
I not only hate Valve, I love EA.

There might be something wrong with me, I don't know.
I admit EA publishes some good games, but there gem/bad game ratio is WAY OUT in my opinion, w.e. to each their own =P

You see, I like to think of them as fodder for the bigger games.
And this is correct. You see, the term cash-cow is misinterpreted by the vast majority. They think it means it's a product that just makes money that goes right into your pocket. But in reality, it's an economical term, meaning something like "big product, bringing in lots of money to finance the more risky stuff". Which is exactly what EA is doing. They also know that having ONLY cash cows will become very dangerous at a point - a point at which Activision is right at the moment.

OT: You'll get a lot of "Yes, Valve" answers.

Yes. Blizzard and Bioware have yet to make a game (that I've played) that I didn't like. While I haven't played some of Blizzard's earlier titles like "Battle Chess" or "Justice League Task Force" I've played everything else they've made since 1995 and enjoyed everything. Similarly, only missing MDK2 (played a demo once, don't remember it) and Shattered Steel for a full Bioware library: Again, not a single game I've not enjoyed immensely.

I'm actually surprised at the positive reactions I've gotten from people so far. Most people are like, "CROWBARS ROOL! VALVE'S AWESOME AND YOU AREZ A N3WB FOR LIKING EA!!! LAWLZ LAWLZ LAWLZ."

On a side note, I know a lot of people embellish stories about people who make fun of them for being "N3WBZ" in the manner I used above. But the funny thing is, I've ACTUALLY had people tell me these things in a completely legitimate manner. Weird, huh?
Some things never change. Fanboys are among those things ;)

But still, I cannot see how you don't like Half-Life or Left 4 Dead. :( Nice, fast-paced action, good leveldesign, supposedly good storytelling (but I don't buy that). Can't go wrong with that.

Sure there are developers that I do trust most of the time. It's the publishers you have to watch out for though.

Valve and Blizzard are my most trusted companies.

Although Blizzards choice to limit SC2 multiplayer to your own region ONLY kinda makes me wonder if they hired some people from Ubisoft. They've promised to "definitely look into" expanding the access to remove the limitation at some point, but it shook my trust a bit. But I don't doubt the awesomeness of the game itself at all.

hmmm I actually trust bioware(I liked KOTOR and mass effect), suda 51(no more heroes and still trying to hunt down killer 7), Bethesda(elder scrolls and fallout), 3D realms(come on they made duke nukem), and valve(do I have to say what they made)

but I don't think every game they make are absolute masterpeices every companies have slip ups
