I just got the Demo for Amnesia, Dark Descent on Steam and tried it out. I'm inviting The Escapist to do the same and post up their impressions here. Also, if anyone has the game and wants to discuss it go ahead. I want to know if it's worth buying. Plus I want to see how many people are scared shitless by this game.

but it still continues to be a very good game. I expected no less from Frictional.

Edit: Oh, and you all owe it to yourselves to check out AoM. It's a Half-Life 1 mod, and a very good one at that, sort of in the same vein as Amnesia. Though it's arguably far scarier.

Bought it, loved it. Terrifying, but still managable.

Except when I reached the prisons, though. I have refused to progress until someone is walking me through it in a gentle tone of voice.

How is it scary? I haven't played it, but I'm curious.. Most games use Jump Scares but that couldn't evoke these responses.. creepy sounds? good use of atmosphere? Why is it scary?

Play it and find out. Mostly just ambiance and proper use of atmosphere, as well as a neat premise for a 'baddie' in the demo section which I wont spoil here.

On a side note this youtube video of someone playing the game is ridiculously entertaining.
