My first M rated game was from my Dad's friend as a gift. Frankly, I was 'mature' enough to handle Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. It's hilariously bad how hard it tries to be edgy, but oh is it fun (My favorite in the trilogy because of its' combat.)

My gran got it. I convinced her that my mom said it was ok. Hehe. Though then my mom heard all the swearing and said that if I had to play it, I would do so without any sound. GTA without sounds is not fun.

most of the time i would get it for a holiday (christmas,birthday,etc...) so up until the past few years i had gotten my games through that, or as a VERY young child i played my uncles games (mind you, they were nearly ALL mature games..resident evil, mortal kombat, etc) and i freaking loved it, i hated going back to other games that were dumbed down for kids back in the day.

I've purchased/received games in every way you mentioned, so I ticked the box of I purchased it myself. They are rather lax in Ireland about these kind of things.

I just bought them and nobody looked twice. I am old, nobody gave a crap back then.

Ironically around the time I hit 18 they started to ID almost religiously.
