Your presented with a choice, Every single problem in the world today (War, Famine etc) will be solved over night, no one will ever be unhappy again and there would be no crime, But you get erased from history, Not killed - Erased. Everything you've ever done wont ever have happened (*Edit* Apart from making that choice, the world would still be fixed)and everyone who knew you would instantly forget you ever existed and to make matters better or worse depending on your outlook, you are still alive, but no one can see you or hear you, You can't intereact with anything or anyone, all you can do is watch the effects of your sacrifice. The question is, Would you do it?

Me, I'd love to say I would do it, for the good of everyone else.. but really, I know I couldn't.. Selfish maybe, But I dont want to die, and when I do eventually die the least I want is people to remember me, so no, I couldn't do it.
What? No! Of course not! fuck those other people, i wanna live!

Dying unrecognized is one of my worst fears. Fuck no I'm not doing it.

If the world wants to resolve its issues, let man figure it out on its own.

No. Not because I wouldn't want to die, but because the world as you describe it is not fixed, but ruined. no one will ever be unhappy again. There would be no crime. The only way to accomplish that is to either destroy free will, or remove everything that makes us human. That is horrible, never could I inflict that destiny on the entire world.

I said yes, but... I don't know. I'd do it if I could have more control over what good the world gets, I guess. If I could spend that time as a ghost instead pointing at and fixing things. Like, smaller scale, important things. Kill a dictator here, restart a space program here, whatever. To just remove, what, the urge to make war? Not sure how I could do that without altering human nature entirely.

So, I change that to a tentative "If I can control what actually happens".

Sorry, can't be bothered reading through all the replies to check against redundancy, so...

I'm very much in favour of sacrifice, but effecting the kind of changes necessary to bring about the world described here would require altering humanity to an extent that noone without deranged pretensions to godhood should even be considering. So no, I would not.

(edited to cut out original, unnecessary quote)

No, because life would be boring as hell for everyone. Nothing would ever happen to make them remember why they felt happy. They wouldn't value the gift I gave them after awhile. Meanwhile I'm stuck in some weird limbo hell for a ton of people I would rather see dead.

Man, I'm brutal. :3

I am not Moses. I want to experience the promised land. No, I would not 'die' to make the world a better place, without even being remembered for my sacrifice.

The world is bigger than one person.

It doesn't matter if one person is erased from existence, the world needs to be saved.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I am going to have to say No on this one. I could elaborate but It would basically be a dissertation. The simple version: every single thing that happens in the world is a direct result of something else. Sometimes when you affect something you perceive as bad, you break other things that are good. It's really rather arrogant and thoughtless for someone to think they know what is best for others. That's not a jab at the OP, that's pretty much a fact. Sure, we all want the best for those around us, but the distance between what is right and what is easy can be light years.

Fringe - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_(TV_series)

It's a sci-fi show created by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias, etc) which has been pretty successful so far.

Spoilers:
The 4th season starts with this same motto, Peter bound the two universes together and ends up getting erased from history and the memories of everyone else in the process.
