I'm sceptic about this. It doesn't look too bad, apart from the ship, which looks like something out of an old Wingcommander game. But I doubt they'll be able to tell a compelling story using Space Marines, worst of all the Ultramarines. I'll see how it goes and probably give it a look, though.

And now the weird question of a non-native speaker: "They are more than mortal" Wouldn't that mean that they are very mortal?
Why do people think you can't tell a story with the Space Marines or the Ultramarines? I've read many great stories with them as main character.

In answer to your question it means they are above mortal, better than mortal, beyond mortal in a whole new league.
I didn't say it was impossible to tell a story with Space Marines. It's just not as easy to tell good stories with them. Look at it that way, your general Spacem Marine mission is to go somewhere, kill everything, praise the Emperor and go back. The Ultramarines are even worse in that aspect, because they follow the Codex Astartes by the the word. Which often means that to tell a intersting story about them, you'll have to tell one about an Ultramarine who breaks the rules. Of course a story like that can still be fun to watch, but in my opinion it is harder to pull off.
It is sad that it always fall back to the Space Marines, because the 40k universe has so much more diversity and more interesting characters. Just imagine a movie involving the Imperial Army, mere humans who stand the horrors of the universe. There could be real characters to identify with, not just giants in power armour. Or a story about the adventures of an inquisitor and his fight against inner and outer demons.

On your answer: I know that this is what it should mean, it just sounded strange in my ears. Thanks for your response.
I agree that the Imperial Guard could make a better story, and my comment wasn't really aimed at you (I knew that point would pop up and you were the first to say it). I've read a LOT of 40k fiction, and really I haven't found that the Space Marines make any less compelling stories. With a good writer at the helm they can be fantastic, and Ultramrines has, IMHO, the best.

Ugh the CGI looks bad. At least for the current age (Avatar has spoiled me). I'm willing to look past the graphics though if the story ends up being good. That being said I hope that this movie includes some SM chapters other than the smurfs. I'm not a huge fan of the Space Marines (well at least loyal chapters, CSM kick ass), but I have to admit that some of the Chapters are really interesting (Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Black Templar). I do not really like the smurfs though. They are everywhere and they are touted as being "Teh Best of Da Smeese Murhines." They've never really been that interesting to me.

This isn't the place to rant about my favorites in 40k though. I'm still interested in the movie, hopefully they make the CGI a little better but even if they don't so long as the stories good I'll check it out. I'm interested in who the main enemies will be. Chaos Space Marines, Orks, Tyranids? They can't have just smurfs right? Right?

I'd like to add something to this. Personally, I think it would be easy to get a story from this but it seems like it won't happen - not because they cant think of one or whatever - but because most warhammer 40K fans dont care about story. If they wasted time on boring characters and dilemas and plot twists there would less screen time for the sexy guns and loud noises that we don't see enough of.
Well, maybe I'm not your typical Warhammer 40k fan then. For me, the technology porn and the action is all nice, but there is also a bit more depth in this universe. The grim future is a great place for dilemmas and plot twists in my opinion.

As I said, it is possible and there definitely are good stories. Dan Abnett probably is one of the best, but I still doubt that the movie will have any kind of memorable story.

Does any one else think that old guy who talked sounded a bit like yahtzee?
Wasn't that John Hurt? He has a brilliant voice, and is in some awesome films (including Alien and Spaceballs)
Yes. Yes it was.

So imagine my disappointment in the rest of the trailer.

I watched the movie and i loved it! I didn't really care for the subpar animation and voice-acting, I just loved the fact that i got to watch space marines on a TV screen.

In all honesty though, it's true that they could've picked a better animation studio than the guys who made the Bionicle movies.

Speaking as a warhammer 40k fanboy (i pray to the emperor,Can type Adpetus Astartes, use the word feth, would cosplay as a Blood angel in a heartbeat and constantly wonder how much better of the imperium would've been if Sangiunius was picked to be Warmaster) (you know like he should have been) its pretty dissapointing, the voice actings "meh" save for the Apthocary (which is a little odd considering how good it is in the DOW games),the characters are bland and unintresting even for Ultramarines(They can all be summed up in two words or less Red-shirt, Rival prick,Old guy,Grizzled Commander and unintresting pounce) the fighting, the core of warhammer is never better then adequate, save for one last standish scene where the Ultramarines fight of a RIDICULOUS number of chaos marines(which is really saying something considering how Astartes are basically demigods) the animations ok but that like saying the camera works ok in a live-action (its functional) and all in all i found myself trying very hard to like it, but just could't.I recommend it only to fellow warhammer fanboys or girls(who am i kidding?) everyone else just watch the trailer that most of the good stuff.Oh yeah and you can watch the full thing on youtube.
