I don't see the problem... At school i had to wear a goddamn blazer, it was like wearing a suit every single goddamn day for 5 years!!!

...and i loved it! Lol strangely enough i think suits are awesome so it didn't bother me.

Your school doesn't seem particularly strict, my mate had a similar dress code as yours, but for college, he left after a week and came to my college with a shedload of brown clothes. :)

Their school, their rules. You may not like having to wear a work uniform but it is part of life and you really have no say in it other than go somewhere else.
I wouldn't change who I was just because the principal is a control freak and that is the parent's choice isn't it?

Now compare it to the bad sides:

1. People don't get to express their opinion via t-shirt.

2. Err...

3. No, that's it.
Hehe, that is a good one. thank you

You're allowed a top button undone? Lucky bastard.

Meh, you'll get used to it, and believe me, the rules wont be followed. I'd give it 2 weeks before you guys find out a way to wear it your own way.
Agreed, when I was in middle school (oh goodness, that was a decade ago...) my school dress code was far more strict. It is what it is. The school votes for it and I believe parents get the opportunity to vote as well (all of my schools have had a dress code and the parents get a vote), though it is likely that few actually do go out to vote on school matters.

School uniforms are just another inconvenience to adolescents' lives, just like parents, and rules, and the inability to simply do what they want.

Yes, while I agree that its sad that school is molding our kids to becoming more puppets of consumerism and capitalism and societies standards, I also believe it's a necessary evil.

I love how so many posters here are appalled at this concept, as if no one ever has to wear a uniform or adhere to a somewhat strict dress code for a job. Unless your self-employed, work as some kind of entertainer, or have a job like a tattoo artist or musician, you're going to have to wear some kind of uniform to make a living. Get used to it.

I'm all about self-expression, but I realize that clothes are just an image, if I'm denied my own choice when it comes to them, then I'll find other avenues of expression, I have to have something. Hell, being in the army I'm very limited when it comes to that, but I went out and got the one pair of boots I've never seen anyone wearing, just to have something to call my own. If you absolutely must have your own thing going on, there are ways.

All in all, I guess I'm for school dress codes and uniforms. Sure they have no impact on your learning but thats no the point, school molds you for society, and not just in an academic way. The faster kids realize that they will have no control over some things in life, the faster they will mature to not give a shit and move on.

As a passionate individualist, I think the very concept of a dress code is ridiculous, and especially hair.

Sure, school is for learning, not for making fashion statements, but dress codes have nothing to do with learning. I've yet to hear one single good argument FOR dress codes.
I would agree with what you are are saying if not for two things...
Obnoxious hair styles like the 12 inch green dyed mo-hawk.
Underwear sticking out so everyone to see your boxers.
Seriously what happened to the days when if someone had their underwear showing everyone would point and laugh at them.
about the seeing boxers:
it started in prisons when they stop letting belts/strings and whatnot in the pants so people don't use them as weapons or kill themselves with it. Then moved on to be the "gangsta" thing to do. Like many thing it is now done to distance the generational gap.

Every generation has at-least one very stupid fashion statement(para-shoot pants, platform shoes, flappers, hippie movement).

5. It makes children outside of school property easier to identify.

had a friend who left school. but wanted to come hanng out so he put on his old uniform and came and hanged out at lunch time :)

uniforms should be worn. at school you wear a unifrom. then you grow up get a job and wear a uniform/suit. then you grow up more and wear another uniform when you play lawn bowls at the local RSL

uniforms in school is a stupid idea. clothes define our style and our personality. i would have quit school if they implemented them
