Wow, it's going to have an A rating? That sounds like sexy violent good, baby. I hope it'll be a good game but it's too early to tell. I'd love to be an Alien or Predator and kill the humans.

If it's like AvP2 only with better graphics/sound and more features, it will be epic. But it's a -50% in my book if it's gonna be an Xbox exclusive title.

I hope it's AvP2 redone, and if it's not, well, it will probably be stunningly mediocre.

Since AvP2 was actually a very good game. :x

In case you don't know:
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19446/Aliens-vs-Predator-First-Details-Revealed/
http://kotaku.com/5229063/more-details-on-new-aliens-vs-predator

The main question is, will the upcoming game live up to its masterpiece PC counterpart Alien vs Predator 2 [http://pc.ign.com/objects/015/015121.html]. Which to me channeled all of the things good about half-life, and made it more Badass by adding the Predator.

My worry is that the AVP franchise typically walks the ultra thin line between awesomeness and total suck, and the movies and that awful RTS [http://xbox.ign.com/objects/499/499547.html] are examples where it slipped off to one side. I love the franchise, and I would love to see a high quality remake of a dated but amazing game.

What are your guys' thoughts?
Re-opening this thread ive got to say the new AVP looks amazing. Theyve stayed pretty true to what made AVP2 amazing and have added in some cool new things like the aliens holding down an enemy to face bite, predators jumping roof to roof, whilst keeping in the origional parts from AVP and adding to the graphics.

I can only hope its a good game, the franchise is in a bit of a downward spiral.
It was never a good franchise.
The games were nice if you liked the movies, but if you didn't know about them it was just an average shooter with annoying gameplay mechanic.(aliens on the walls/ceiling)

I'll wait for the PC port, and probably kill someone if they ruin the controls.
I'll be merciful and only kill one half of you for thinking the AvP movies were around before the games. Since I'm so generous, I'll let you choose which half.

(Don't even try to say you were talking about the original Alien or Predator movies. If you don't at least know about them, you're either A) Not a man; or B) Making a living at the bottom of a 50-foot hole, determined not to interact with the outside in any way.)

Jesus fucking Christ this is graphic:

Yeah I haven't been following this at all recently... Heh.

It does look pretty badass. I'm glad that, at least from the marine trailer, they're preserving the feel of fighting as a marine. I was really scared for a second they were going to pull some sort of 3rd person, cover fire BS... which would totally ruin the atmosphere from previous games in the series.

So shit, there's a lot of videos out for the game.

pulling from IGN:
Developed at Rebellion by the team responsible for the original 1999 PC classic, the all-new Aliens vs. Predator allows players to take the role of three infamous species: Colonial Marines, Predators and Aliens. The game features a unique three-way online multiplayer experience, allowing gamers to battle for survival and the right to be crowned the deadliest species in the galaxy. Each race will also have its own distinct action-packed single-player campaign mode, with a storyline that cleverly interweaves with the other two species' paths.

Set on planet BG-386; a human colonist mining group discovers an ancient pyramid containing a dark and horrible secret. Across the galaxy, a race of warriors is alerted to the discovery of their pyramid and a hunting party is dispatched to ensure that it remains sealed at all costs. Deep inside the ruined pyramid meanwhile, nature's deadliest species awakes from centuries of hibernation intent on finding new prey.
That's a bit of a concern for me... Pretty much a rip straight from the movies. I suppose it is good to cater to the new fan base that might be center purely on the movies and not on the previous games or books.

But I always thought the movies were kind of crap. They really make the aliens into bitches. In the previous games the Aliens were always there first, and the predators had to seek them out. In the movies, the aliens get herded like cattle. Which is kind of lame, when you watch Alien and remember how bad ass those guys are.

Both the movies were crap, and so was the RTS. I don't think anyone would argue that. But AvP and AvP2 for the PC were absolutely brilliant, so I'm cautiously optimistic for this one.

Franchise was crap to begin with. Two franchises that were over tried to reboot themselves by colliding. Meh.
Ditto the Hell out of this. Typical Hollywood suit bullshit. The first was PG13. A PG13 Alien/Predator movie. "Let's make a kid-friendly horror movie." And the sequel had interspecies rape - of a pregnant woman. Tastefully done.

Although I must admit, I've only played one of the games (it was pure crap), and that was years ago.

The important question was which one and why did you think it was crap. If it was the RTS that came out most recently, then I understand.

The Marine Campaign in Alien vs Predator 2 is still one of my favorite things ever produced by a video game designer anywhere. But I guess a fair amount of that love is fanboy based.

I'll hold up my hand and admit I liked (sort of) the AvP Extinction RTS.

There aren't many games that let you gather hosts and facehug them, building your Hive in the process. Its just that it was rather shallow, all things considered.

No idea. I don't even remember the platform. I just remember that it had decent, if showy graphics, but was still not as fun as the old patch Aliens Doom.

I've loved the franchise from comic to arcade game to PC. The films delved a little in to the 'fan service' side of things, but were by no means bad. Personally, I'm looking forward to this game more than any other in the foreseeable future. AvP 1 & 2's Marine campaigns were absolutely outstanding, so I'm hoping for at least more of the same.

What did you play, the Jaguar 64 game?? The PC AVP games are supposed to be amazing, I remember playing it at my cousin's house and being pissed that my computer couldn't run it because I wanted it so bad. On the other hand, I bought a Jag 64 just to try that old piece of shit, lost it in my closet and never looked back.

DUUUUUUDE

Fuck yes, that's what a fuckin predator game oughta look like! I just went from "oblivious" to "pissing pants" on the excited scale!

Looks like ESRB is planning on giving it an M rating...
Well, I see RP-M+ here. I have no idea what M+ means.

Er, so apparently the game is already banned in Germany:
http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=15065
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/51307/Aliens-vs-Predator-Not-Being-Released-In-Germany

I imagine that the Australian censorship board will not rate the game either. In fact, those trophy kills are so gory, I half expect the Aussies to travel back in time and kill all the designer's mothers so they're never born. That'd be the best way to protect the children.

i love the first games so i'm pretty excited about this new one. though i'm not gonna get too excited before it comes out, it could still be crap. we'll have to see when more info comes out. what's the release date?
