Yea it is overused. When I put lol I'm not so much laughing out loud as maybe giving a small chortle or giggle.

I use lol often, usually I just giggle or chuckle to myself in front of the computer (gosh that's a sad picture)

I now even use it in real life, I can't help it, but there I usually say it if something weird happens, as opposed to funny.

Never. If something is said to me that makes me laugh, I will let the person responsible know about it, but I'm too old to use that sort of jargon. And by "too old" I mean "not a tween girl."

WAFFLEMAO
is my new saying from now on.
Just to keep it original.

P.S. I agree, overused, never use it. Sounds like someone going through a ridiculous valley girl phase.

Usually i'm letting out a small giggle or chuckle when I write it, it's nothing scary, get over it. It's just the letters L and O, it's not going to reach out of the screen and face rape you...

I only use "lol" when i actually laugh at something and don't write to write out a long explanation.

Or say something "I laughed at you awesome joke"

I use lol and some other abbreviations ironically and humorously in real life (sometimes in response to someone using them seriously and annoyingly), but I don't end all my sentences with them. That just annoys me.

LOL...erm sorry. It's overused in the wrong moments. I personally like using the word if only to lighten up a particularly dark post.
I also like to say it out loud in person in the place of a chuckle.

I have this little thing I like to use called sentence structure. It helps me avoid internet shorthand as much as possible.

Well, I just had to delete an entire post, because this one summed up what I had to say far better than I could.
