I thought it was pretty good - I wouldn't rush to do an in-depth second viewing or anything, but it held together fairly well.

Oh, and sorry to nitpick, but people, *please* make 'a lot' into two separate words! Gah! *spelling nut moment* =S

It was crap.

Utter utterly boring, badly paced, badly shot, predictable, pretends to be deep badly written crap crap.

Alan Moore's comics are pretty good, after watching that it's easy to understand why he hates people trying to film his comics so much.

My friend brought the DVD to a sleepover and at first I was like 'Do we have to watch that?' and by halfway through I was telling everyone to shut up because I couldn't hear. I've since read the graphic novel and while I prefer it because it has more depth I believe the movie did a good job of taking the main essences to create a film that flows well.

One of the best movies I´ve seen(and I´ve seen a lot of movies). Watched it for the third time a week ago, and still loved it.

I'm not sure what the difference between "It was ok" and "It was decent" is, but it seems a very tiny increment. Anyway, I didn't like it much for several reasons: It all starts with Evey going for a walk after curfew...wait, what? She's supposed to be 16 and naively going out to try and prostitute herself to try and scrape a few more pennies together to fund her fairly miserable existence, not boldly going for a stroll across town, risking her life to see a friend!

I don't mind changes to the book to make it easier to film, these are necessary for the process, but that one really screws up her whole character development arc. Then in comes V who competes for the world record in alliterative sentence length for no good reason except to hammer home the "V" motif (which has plenty of nods to it in the first place).

Other annoyances are V not being portrayed as enough of a stone-cold psychopath and more a lovable rogue, the excision of Rose Almond who is a direct parallel of Evey (coming from a oppressed position and making a huge change to the world by killing the party leader who doesn't even remember who she is) and the amazingly bloody stupid ending where somehow everyone receives a "V" mask in the post and organise themselves into an overwhelming protest march.

There's plenty more, so I'll say one good thing: The section where Evey is arrested and tortured until she has nothing left to fear was handled pretty much perfectly.

Ok, never mind - the whole Stephen Fry subplot was total crap, so I'm ending on a sour note.

A travesty compared to the marval that was the book. No wonder Alan Moore doesn't put his names against films. Those of you that enjoyed the film should really read the book, then watch the film and finally assess your remarks!

I really like the way a recent s_words podcast went about describing V for Vendetta.

The comic had a fair amount of of depth and had a story it needed to tell.

The bros. tried to update the movie and changed the plot to TERRORISM, TERROR TERROR DESTROY THE DOCTOR...

Sorry, getting the wires crossed, there.

Taken for what it is, a movie, pretending to have no knoweldge of the comic, it's a perfectly acceptable action movie, and I've seen far far worse movies that had no good source.

Taken as a translation of the comic, it did a terrible job.

I didn't like it.

I thought its politics were incredibly sophomoric and immature. It didn't have anything important to say about authority and didn't inspire anyone to be critical of their own governments. Since that was really all there was to the movie, there wasn't much left to appreciate.

The music was also louder than the dialogue, which drove me fucking insane.
Valid points, but I do think that there was more to the movie than that. So long as you don't take the admittedly shallow politics too seriously there's a decent action-type movie in there.
I tried to enjoy it on this level, but there were only two action scenes that I can remember. It delivered on a few levels, but not enough to make me recommend the movie to other people.

Basically, Children of Men was the movie V for Vendetta should have been.

Comic was better, movie had none of the homosexual undertones the book carried.
yeah cause Gordon Deitrich wasn't gay at all nor was Valerie Page, nope never mentioned homosexuals in the movie at all

if you think they updated it, then you really didn't read the comic sorry to say, they mention him being a terrorist several time throughout the comic

as for me, i liked the movie and thought it was really well done, however the comic was better but it was one of the better adaptations i've seen, not shot for shot, tho some parts are, it held true to the story

Disclaimer: Hasn't read the comic. Everyone who read that says it's better than the movie.

Liked it a lot. As some have remarked Norsefire's tendencies seem more Americanized-Theocratic than Facist but it's understandable that they would want to use that over something only those 50 or older have really experienced. Sometimes Norsefire felt almost too evil to be realistic- how could anyone no matter how terrified vote for this man*? V though was perfectly portrayed struggling between a desire to undo a great evil and the desire for vengeance. The objective here naturally was to stir up controversy of whether he was a monster or hero. Mission accomplished.

*- Hardly the first time an evil government has been done tongue-in-cheek style though. Has anyone else seen the Bush caricature in 'Escape From L.A.'? At least that's who I assumed they were mocking....

I remember downloading a torrent for it after I had went to see it in theaters. Crappy part is I ended up starting it up while with my gf at the time and the first thing we see on screen is a screaming vagina with teeth. Anyways V for Vagina is much more appropriate now.

Comic was awesome. Movie was doomed from day one. Not the fault of the comic or the cast at all, just completely the wrong directors for the job.
