So, I heard through the grapevine that in a matter of weeks the general public will be offered a Swine-Flu vaccine. You can refuse it if you want, but it's a pretty damn tough decision, especially for the likes of me, who doesn't exactly look forward to the prospect of being injected with something that I might not need.

What do the Escapers think?

Sure why not? If you did catch Swine Flu, you'd feel pretty foolish for not taking the vaccination.

Being military I doubt I'll be given a choice, however I wouldn't take it if I had the option. I already got the manditory regular flu vaccine.

I'd take it. It's useful to have prepared your body for the real deal. But you're not missing out too much if you don't take it.

Well considering that in the same time period normal flu would have killed thousands and swine flu has killed much less, no I won't get it.

I'll get the normal flu vaccine.
I don't think swine flu really is such a big deal.
Also, there's a certain cross-immunity that comes with the normal vaccination.

Swine Flu is flu. It's bad flu, but many people will have caught it and gotten over it without even having realised. I'm not in the vulnerable bracket, so I don't think I will. I'm also fairly certain I've had already. All it did was keep me in bed for a few days, and that's all it's done to other people I know who've had it.

Don't see why I wouldn't if someone came and offered it to me but...I'm not going to go out of my way to get it. Swine Flu knocks people on their ass for a week, then they get better.

Swine Flu is about as powerful as a common cold to most people, it's a very, VERY slim minority who are at even a marginal risk of dying from it. Seeing as how there's a cure for it anyway even if you do get it, I don't see the point in getting vaccinated for it. Many of my friends have already had it and pulled through with barely a sniffle, and in fact I've probably already had it too but just not known. So I'm not concerned really.

I have a terrible bad luck streak with flu vaccinations, tending to limit my base of operations to my bed/bathroom for the following several days. This has happened every time I've gotten the flu shot. Suffice it to say I gave up getting a flu shot years ago and I have been better for it.

Now, this is different in that it is the swine flu vaccination and not the random annual flu shot but I am still going to skip this one. In my eyes it appears to be a "damned if I do, damned if I don't" situation.

Swine flu isn't as fatal as the news would have you believe anyway. This is especially true of my demographic and that I live in a country with quick and easy access to medical attention should a problem arise.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, it's not an injection. It's more of a nasal syringe - no needle. Although it can also be done with a needle as well.

Yes, I have asthma and I heard it is more dangerous for people who have asthma, even though where I live in Scotland hardly anyone has suffered from swine flu, better safe than sorry:p

I'll take it if it's free, but I won't pay money for something my immune system seems to be able to deal with. (Haven't had swine flu, but no disease I've gotten has kept me from going about my day.)

As far as I can tell, Swine Flu is no more dangerous than standard issue flue to a healthy person. My opinion is that the vaccines should be given to people who are most at risk first and then to other people.
