What's up with the retarded poll options?
What's up with your misuse of the word "retarded"?

Yeah, I'm sorry, but Valve is a business; they're not your friends. They put out this content for free. Why? I don't know. But they're not going to pay out to give you free content.
True. But we're not obliged to buy Valve games in future either. As it's clear that, be it due to MS's intransigence or Valve's lack of will, I'll be a lot more reluctant to buy Valve games when I've only Newell's shaky 'guarantee' that updates will come to go on.

the lag is unbearable.
Not really. There are no dedicated servers, but it's not that bad.

360 users stopped playing cause the game got no updates, If they had sat and tried releasing the updates when they released em for PC it wouldn't have cost as much wouldn't it? and it certainly would have expanded the game and people would have actively felt like playing the game.

1. They said outright that releasing the updates for 360 as frequently for Pc would have cost them too much because of Microsoft's policies.

2. From what I have heard and seen, 360 TF2 still has a fairly large and dedicated community.

3. Please use the right words to express your idea. I mean "actively felt like playing the game", really?

Well, it seems most people who have the updates hate them. I'll settle with Valve's PC fanboyishness until Portal 2 comes out and is PC exclusive. Then, I'm getting a team, and we're attacking their fortress.[footnote]Oh. I am witty. Ha ha.[/footnote]
May I get in on this TOO?[footnote]Aren't puns just delightful?[/footnote]

*cries* oh no I've been told I cant use that phrase.

1.valve would have incurred no more cost then to develop and host the updates and the like them selves then it would have to deal with Microsoft policies.

2.360 TF2 has a fairly gimpy and small community.

3.please the right? talk about the pot calling the kettle blacks seems to me you misused your words worse then I did.

1. You do realize Microsoft has to OK the updates for us to have them over Xbox live, right?

2. Since when?

3. Hoist by my own petard I see.

Yes Microsoft has to Okay the updates but do you actually think If valve had kept the game updated with the pc version Microsoft would have denied them? Nearly every update for other valve games on the 360 have been very speedy in the Microsoft testing pipeline it stands to reason other updates would as well.

and its been small since about 6-8 months after orange boxes release when updates were first coming out for the pc and those same updates weren't making they're way to 360 there is only so much time the 360 players could play the same maps, same weapons, same game-types people got bored of it got their achievements and then left.

I said before I personally would have been more active on that game If it had the plathoria of updates that the PC got. I don't have a PC capable of playing Orange box...so...

Actually, TF2's free update policy is extremely good business practice. Do you have any idea how much advertisement (and subsequent sales after the free weekend ends) they get with these updates? From the moment they start unveiling the unlocks and until the update is actually released Gabe Newell might as well have the entire Internet by the balls, and they've been getting better and better at making these updates go viral (The spy update reveal, Meet the spy "leaked", the demo-soldier war).
Now I'm not complaining or anything, at 700 hours clocked so far, TF2's the best 20 bucks I ever spent, and free updates are awesome, but they're definitely not doing this just because they like us.

Which makes their update policy on the Xbox much more understandable. Releasing all these updates one by one wouldn't make any sense financially if they have to hand Microsoft a huge stack of greens every time they want to add something. It's not a very enviable position to be in considering interest for the Xbox version decreases as time goes by with no updates in sight, but the way thing are now they're screwed if they do and screwed if they don't.

EDIT: Look at all [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/30/tf2s-sniper-spy-get-milestone-achievements/] the RPS [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/15/sniper-update-day-3-things-get-mysterious/] articles [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/15/sniper-spy-update-day-4/] I found [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/19/act-surprised-official-hd-meet-the-spy/] on the [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/19/the-spy-meet-the-ambassador/] sniper/spy [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/21/jarate-is-real-damn-you-valve-for-being-too-funny/] update [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/22/sniper-spy-updates-online-tf2-free-weekend/] alone [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/22/the-tf2-unlock-teacup-storm/]. Christ, I'm not even sure I actually linked all of them.

Frankly, I don't really care too much about TF2 updates.

What I DO care about, is when the bloody hell are they going to show us something to do with Episode 3.

They'd better have several HUGE excuses for it taking so long.

Personally, I don't see it happening. Although I can't forgive Valve for bringing their games to the Mac before the PS3.

Yes, that gun has sex with people for money. TBH I don't like any of the DLC/updates gamemodes except goldrush and I prefer the classic maps and not ONE of the class updates has failed to anger me greatly.

I just wish none of it had updated, then I could play it again...

It seems that any thread that has anything to do with Valve will always have someone mention Episode 3. I'm going to call this Gordon's Law.

On-topic: So if they were never going to update the 360, why did they say they were going to in the past? Valve has gone from blaming Microsoft to saying it will cost to much. I don;t buy it. Valve just doesn't want to support the console market because they don't think they can make a large enough profit from it. An understandable position, but they shouldn't have toyed with the 360 gamers for years now promising them updates that will never arrive.

You think it's unreasonable that Valve doesn't want to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in QA fees to Microsoft so that it can release free updates to TF2 on the Xbox 360? Are you serious?

I pla on 360, and I've been waiting for updates. I have a mac and 360, and I'm so tired of the wait, I'm just going to get it off of steam so I can get all the weapona instead of waiting forever.

The rotund chap who heads Valve has said multiple times that he has no respect for console gamers. and thinks they will die out. So yes, they are elitists. Besides that bullshit they are still the nicest game developers around though.
Maybe I'd be more pissed off if I played TF2...

EDIT: Here's a link. It's just wikipedia, and isn't the exact quote I was referring to but it's enough to see the disrespect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabe_Newell
"In 2007, Newell openly expressed his displeasure over developing his software for gaming consoles, particularly the PlayStation 3. In regard to the system, Newell was once quoted as claiming that developing processes for the console in general was "a waste of everybody's time" and "a disaster on many levels ... I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'."
OBJECTION!

While I do appreciate you crediting your sources (even if it's...wikipedia...ugh...) you did in fact undermine yourself.

Gabe was referring specifically to Sony and the Playstation 3. Not to consoles in general, not even to console PLAYERS, and not even to players of the PS3. Just the developement of an 8-core system that has very different graphics architecture to the Xbox 360. It's a technology criticism. Heck, the guy used to work for Microsoft, and in fact has nothing but respect for the Xbox. He's just ashamed his company ended up giving such a horrible port of the Orange Box on the PS3.
