So I watching this video of a game Tecmo Koei is working on "Fist of the North Star" for xbox 360 and Ps3.

And watching all the bodies explode and such, I began to think "This is really brutal. Possibly one of the bloodiest games I've ever seen." I mean, bodies just explode into a rain of blood after being punch a couple hundred times. But then again, I've played games like No More Heroes, Gears of War and Mad World where all you do is basically chop people in half.

So what do you think? Is it more violent to have bodies simply explode or see someone chopped in half? Is video game violence getting ridiculous? What do you think is the most violent video game?

I like video game violence. And of course the games you listed are ridiculous, that's what makes them fun.

I enjoy a nice bit of gore here and there. I can't stand games that use it as a selling point though.

I don't mind what games have done before, as in the ones I've listed, but I think an exploding body ever 2 seconds is a bit much.

No, those examples used violence in ridiculous ways and are completely aware of that, which makes them more funny.
I preffer that to more "serious" and "grim" approaches to violence, like Manhunt...

None.

They are all fictional characters made of polygons/pixels/whatever.
True, but very realistic none-the-less

Well, chainsawing someone in half is tolerable,if slightly icky, for me. Bodies exploding every 2 seconds can get disturbing. But in terms of violence,i suppose not many things beat Manhunt.

EDIT: and i've just realised i should have voted "Other". Dang.

The "worse" violence isn't the violence that is over the top, it's the violence that is portrayed more realistically. The cartoony way of doing violence in most video games actually helps to detach it from reality, imo.

Manhunt gives you extra points for attack extra squishy parts if I remember correctly. One attack involved knocking a guy down, and stabbing his eyes out with two pieces of glass.

Sounds like another reason I'd rather not play Manhunt. I just can't stomach that kind of thing.

Don't forget the execution they were forced to cut from the sequel.

I'm just listing games that I have played and came up with on the top of my head. I know there are worse games but I'm just giving some examples.

I would say that the only video game violence that made me a bit uneasy at times (and only rarely) was GTAIV's. I realize it's still just a game but coming from SA and the previous titles, on a inferior generation of console in terms of graphics, and with decidedly goofier storylines, going to something with graphics that are pretty damn realistic and people that you can connect with was pretty messed up.

I only really bad once because I heard some sad random conversation on the sidewalk about this guy and his wife leaving him or something and I decided to blow him up with a grenade. I don't know, something about there being so many different pedestrian models and conversations that they're having really bugged me.

Still love that game though

I agree with Kollega, Manhunt is probably one of the most disturbingly violent games I've ever seen simply because it goes about it with a brutal sense of realism compared to other games. Even though it's probably not all that realistic, the premise of the game, the context, is what makes the violence even more intense.

I don't know what's worse. I generally enjoy gory video games. I'm getting God of War 3 next year, and the gore is anything, but, holding me back from my purchase.
