Well the poll is in a forum for gamers, so the answer is probably going to be biased to 'no'. Those who answered yes is probably trying to be scientifically correct (i.e. media influences us bit by bit, so yes, games do influence us).
It doesn't take more than one lunatic to say that he did something bad because he saw it in a video game before the media watchdogs jump all over it like a starving pack of hyenas on a dead horse.
THEN the public thinks games create violent behavior. As some posters had said: video games are the new rock music and D&D.
I'm actually quite interested in what will be the next scapegoat in 30 - 40 years.....heck make that 10 years.
EDIT: OK I just read the paper that was linked. The theory part says:
1. Aggressive thoughts increase, which in turn increase the likelihood that a mild or ambiguous provocation will be interpreted in a hostile fashion. 2. Aggressive affect increases. 3. General arousal (e.g., heart rate) increases, which tends to increase the dominant behavioral tendency. 4. Direct imitation of recently observed aggressive behaviors sometimes occurs.
If what they say is true, won't competitive contact sports be EXACTLY like violent video games? "My son got into a bar fight because he's been playing American football/practicing karate/boxing."
