I dunno about how it's supposed to be spelled, but I always have spelled it as one word, Videogames.

One of these is European. That's all I know. I vote it being two words, though.

'Video game' or 'video-game' are the correct spellings, 'videogame' is just wrong. Spell check seems to agree. I've noticed people omitting the space in 'role play' too.

D: Computer games :eek:p

The phrase "video games" (however you want to spell it!) has always seemed a strange one to me - Space Invaders was an arcade game, Fallout 4 is a computer game, what are these video games you speak of? - VHS versus Betamax maybe?

I'm from Denmark, which means I'm conditioned to love compound words.

This means I usually spell it, "videogames".

I've always spelled/spelt it with a space. But with help of the internet and Separated By A Common Language [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeparatedByACommonLanguage], I'm always finding so many ways to spell and/or hyphenate dozens of words and new words for the same meaning, so who cares how you spell it (as long as "vidja garmes" is being used sarcastically).

Really I don't see why computer games and video games are separated either. Both use computers, whether a personal microcomputer or a traditional console. And unless you play an experimental game where only audio and physical cues (rumble) are perceived, both use video as the primary feedback to the player. (It must just be a secret conspiracy started by PC/console elitists to keep us disunited./jk)

At least to me, "arcade game" means a big box with a screen and controls set up for a specific style of game. That seems different enough for me to classify arcade games in their own category.

If you study the history of language, then you learn that words naturally converge over time. They tend to go through the phase of being two separate words, then two words separated by a hyphen, and finally a single word. Therefore book shelf becomes book-shelf, which then becomes bookshelf.

Therefore the correct answer will inevitably be videogame.

I mostly use video games. Occasionally I'll use one of the other spellings, but not too often.

Vidigamez... You either say it by syllable (Vi-di-ga-mez) or as fast as possible... If the person you're speaking to says "You mean videogames, video games, or video-games?" or any variation of that question/phrase, them you don't have to ask them the general question of "Do you play vidigamez?" unless you did hopefully as a means to generate small talk, at best...

Other than that, Games Video sounds like the YouTube of pure gaming videos... as well as another way to say videogames, video game, and video-games...

True gamers spell it "video game," obviously.

Captcha: post office.

What, not postoffice or post-office?

That was my joke option for the poll but I suspect it would've drawn the most votes, so I chose to not include it.

Video games. Although I hardly call them that unless I'm talking to non-gamers about it, which I do rarely. So to friends, it's just "games", to other gamers, it's "games" or "PC games" or "console games" all of which are spaced.

To be honest I, despite the megatons of gaming media/writing/news I consume, I don't believe I've ever seen it hyphenated?? Who does this?
