Sometimes... it really depends upon a case-by-case basis. I don't think taking the law into one's own hands should be encouraged. But... sometimes bad people who are not getting in trouble who deserve it probably could use a whacking from someone if the courts can't deal with them. I guess it could be ok, but not always, you know? :)

I will say no, while the vigilanties may have good intentions they may put themselves or others at pointless risk, especially if they have no real training. We dont really need vigilantes unless the place in question is run by EXTREMELY corrupt authorites

I would say no because people have diffrent views of whats right and wrong so a vigilante might kill someone for their twisted sense of good. Also we don't really need a bunch of trigger happy vigilantes running about looking for trouble.

Vigilantism is never good.
We must have order for peace and justice (why yes, I know I sound like a propaganda poster) and vigilantism is the same as anarchy.

Now that is not the same as saying that people can't knock a thief on his arse if caught red handed. However, people should not be allowed to go look for criminals.

Isn't the whole reason we have a legal system so we don't have to resort to vigilantism?

Absolutely not.

Everybody has their own moral code to act upon and they will perceive evil beings in different ways. So, eventually things turn out to be complete chaos and people just shoot each other up in paranoia of being attacked themselves.

I'm for Vigilanties, but what I'm even more for is Vigilante Force.

Take a number of people who have no distinctive way of dressing or anything like that. Give those people pistols and badges. And now give them the right to act with no consequences whenever somebody's health or safety is endangered. A guy talks shit and is acting violently on a train. A group of thugs bully somebody on the street. A drunk damages property.

The guy wouldn't actually have to shoot one bullet. But the fact that they, the Judges, can be everywhere, because of how incognito they are, and the fact that they CAN use their guns if the situation becomes difficult would, in my opinion, improve the overall safety of regular people like you and I.

Of course such an organisation would need very hard entry tests - mostly psychological. And of course there is place for screw-ups. But personally, I don't care much about people, and a few minor mistakes are justifiable if the hundreds of chavs, thugs and pure assholes fear threatened or bite the dust. If they strike fear into our hearts, it's high time they feel the same. And if you're a regular guy on the street, not doing anything wrong - you have nothing to worry about.

Such an organisation in a country like England would do wonders. You wouldn't believe how many useless, aggressive pricks you get in smaller cities here.
