With Skyfall soon approaching its release date, I thought why not settle the oft-asked question "Who's the Best Bond?" Escapist style. As someone who could reasonably be said to have characteristics and tendencies that one could accurately describe as "fan-like", I'm quite eager to see what everyone thinks. :)

So I put it to you Escapists, Who is the "Best" Bond?
And more importantly, WHY? You may justify your favourite however you wish, though I would heartily recommend sharing your favourite one-liner, Bond-Moment or anecdote.

One particularly stand-out moment comes from the "unofficial", non-canonical Bond film, "Never Say Never Again" (made by a rival studio), where Connery reprises the role of Bond. In the scene [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ8B0Scj4lE], the femme-fatale finishes her water-skiing and her momentum carries her into Bond. She apologises, "Oh no, I made you all wet!" to which he replies, "That's alright. My martini is still dry."

As an aside, is anyone else looking forward to Skyfall? I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond, but the trailer looks very promising indeed. Truth be told, I'd watch it whoever was in it, but still...Bond 23!

I'm torn between Sean Connery and Daniel Craig, as I quite like the direction they've started taking the Bond franchise in. Roger Moore is the only other one that I remember.

Mmh this thread was done a few days ago.
Still, I'd say my top 3 are Connery, Brosnan and Craig (in no particular order).
On the basis that I like the two 'new' ones though, I'll vote Craig:].

I like Craig a lot but Brosnan was in the first Bond movies I saw and really like his movies (and him also as the character) so I go for Pierce

Brosnan is still my favorite, partially for nostalgic reasons (Tomorrow Never Dies is the first Bond I remember seeing,) and partially because his portrayal feels like a perfect distillation of the Bonds who came before; he's got Connery's swagger, Moore's wit, and a touch of Dalton's darkness.

As for the others....

Connery's the classic Bond, and the template from which all other Bonds spring from, plus it helps that he had the best movies the series has to offer (Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, Thunderball.)

Moore's incredibly charming, and played a perfect Bond to compliment the sillier entries he found himself in, like Moonraker.

I haven't seen any of Dalton's Bonds in years, but I do remember thinking he felt more unhinged then the others, and felt the most "real" out of the Bonds. I should really revisit his work so I can get a better grip on it.

Craig is a fantastic actor, and I love his other work, but I'm not sure I like him as Bond. He's just not...charming enough. Were Casino Royale a movie from a different franchise, I probably would have liked it more, but it was a Bond movie, and it had a certain standard to live up to. Skyfall is supposed to be a more traditional Bond though, so my stance could change.

Craig is a British Jason Bourne. Though I think half of his movies as the character were kind of crap, Peirce Brosnan is the perfect Bond in my eyes. That charm and wit is just so essential. I can even enjoy Die Another Day, terrible as it was, because Brosnan was highly entertaining as Bond.

I'd go...
1. Brosnan
2. Connery
3. Moore
4. Dalton
5. Lazenby
6.
7.
8
...
1,000,000,000,000. Craig

Daniel Craig. I prefer special agent badasses to have a slightly more hardline approach to, erm... problem solving.

Basically, shooting up an entire building on foreign soil to catch one dude = awesome.

Well, Craig brings a coldness that you'd expect Bond to have, but Bond's charm suffers as a result.

Brosnan was great, it's a shame his films were a let down, Goldeneye being the exception

*swoon* I'd let him shake my Martini any day

Dalton I liked for his serious "lets get on with it" attitude.

Moore was so smoooooooooth, but a little to light-hearted for my liking

I've never seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service so I can't comment on Lazenby

Connery isn't quiet perfect compared to how I imagine Bond, but he's pretty damn close. So yea, Connery is my favourite, with Brosnan and Dalton somewhere in second

there's a bit in one of the early Connery films where he's dancing with a girl in a club and a gun pokes out from some curtains or something, he deliberately spins the girl in the dance, she takes the bullet in the back instead of it hitting him and then he then calmly sits her down on a chair and makes some remark to the barman about her having too much to drink and he calmly saunters off...

that's Bond.

Dude, that hit-man was working FOR that girl he was dancing with, she was a henchwoman of the bad guy :p

You missed George Lazenby. No, he's not my favorite, but he was in a good movie. Well, the good movie happened around him.

As for the others, Connery is my favorite, but Craig is the best. Basically, Connery is the one I started with, and enjoy the most, but in many other ways, Craig is the best.

Peeps need to back the fudge off Craig, the guys classy even if his Bond is a little to serious for some tastes... granted, Quantum of Solace was a piece of doodie but Casino Royale was pretty good.

Personally I gotta love Pierce, they say it tends to be the one you grew up with.

Tie between Brosnan and Connery for me.

Brosnan because he was Goldeneye's Bond and I love Goldeneye far more than any human being should love anything.

Connery, however, captured the pure essence of James Bond perfectly. It's a really tough choice.

I would have to say Brosnan. He just seems to have the look of Bond's character traits... if that makes any sense at all.

I gotta say Brosnan.

I like classy things, and Brosnan is too class what mince meat is to pies.

He had the class, he had the gadgets, he had everything that I love about the Bond series. There was no people dying left and right, there was only occassional destruction when shit hit the fan. But he could get stuff done without resorting to destroying everything ever.

Voted Connery, otherwise a angry mob of people may teleport behind me and beat me up, that and I really think he is the James Fucking Bond.

And who the fuck is David Niven?
