Here's a basic summary for each site:

Giant in the Playground is definitely in the middle of things. Although it's aimed at dice games, it's very clear it has a big userbase and is apparently growing. If you want a pure normal forum, this definitely seems the way to go.

Giant Bomb seems to be a more "mainstream" gaming forum. It's like a combination of Gamespot and the Escapist for better and for worse. For us Escapist users, it's probably gonna be the most familiar of the three.

RPG Codex seems to be a lot like Giant in the Playground but a whole lot more mature. Personally, I've gotten very used to such environments a long time ago so I'll be right at home in a way, but like Frankster said, it's probably not for everyone.

EDIT: There's also the Facepunch forums ( https://facepunch.com/forum.php ) which I found out about too late, so I can't add it now, but if enough people post in favor of it, I'll start another poll. It's got some nice loose but fair rules and it's very active. Supports custom avatars and animated ones as well.

RPG Codex is definitely the laxest but they force you to be a member for a year before they even let you into the general discussion board. Besides that, I do not know. I'd just head on over to the rules section for each and see which ruleset you agree with most.

This is the only, ONLY, forum I post to and only, ONLY, board I even lurk on is Gamefaq's for obvious reasons.
Maybe a change of scenery would do me good.

You know, you got a point. I didn't actually look over the rules at GitP, but it turns out that some of them are pretty darn suffocating. The rules read like the legal paperwork for a business contract.

Well obviously they have to fill up the Arks with as many representatives of our diverse community as possible, so that they can escape to the new galaxy and avoid the coming Reaper invasion!

I feel like I remember seeing the guy who recommended RPG codex in a previous thread saying that it's largely caustic conservatives prone to hostility. I'm all for different opinions and discussion but I'm not interested in entering an echo chamber. What are the communities like on these sites?

Well, if you want something close to the Escapist, I did suggest https://www.filesnation.com in the other thread. The problem you pointed out is that it's not entirely active. Well... If we got a bunch of people from here to go there, wouldn't that help alleviate some of the issue?
