Poll: Warcraft 4?

Been re-playing Warcraft 3 recently, and it's re-newed my wanting for a 4th game in the RTS series.

I know they've been milking WOW since it's so successful and they're not about to quit it anytime soon, but couldn't they develop Warcraft 4 at the same time and continue the main story -maybe even have a time lapse that would be explained in WOW-

I haven't played WOW, but from the summaries, next to nothing happens in the main timeline, and I'd like this story to have a conclusion.

It's like a season finale to a good show, and you've been waiting for the next season for years, only for them to churn out Christmas and Easter specials instead.

What do you think?

Blizzard has said that they will create a Warcraft 4 RTS, but their priorities are focused more on Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and Cataclysm.

They will be making it, just not for a while.

Since World Of Warcraft is still going on, and Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are in the works, I don't think Blizzard is particularly concerned with making a Warcraft 4.

They'll make Warcraft 4 once they run out of usable lore and story lines for WoW. Which will be in about an eternity.

Man, you've been reading the wrong summaries.

WoW is the main continuation of the WC storyline right now. The RTS team is working on SC2, so if there IS a WC4, it won't be until after the final part of the SC2 trilogy is out, but they would like to make one.

I agree wholeheartedly. Blizzard would also need to come up with a whole new set of characters for the new Warcraft game (since most of the old ones tend to get killed off over the course of WoW- both in raids and the main story.)

And then the WoW community will start clamoring to introduce the Warcraft 4 characters into WoW... it's just a bit too much for even a studio as mighty as Blizzard to handle right now- especially with Cataclysm in the works.

Why Warcraft 4? Warcraft 3 was inferior to Warcraft 2. The only Warcraft sequel to which I would be principally drawn is 2 with a graphics update and auto-cast. Warcraft 3 was not but a disappointment.

Currently, I am not looking forward to any game (sans Nukem) as that it would interfere with my WoW time. So long as Blizzard keeps the new WoW content coming, I shall remain content.

I haven't read any posts of them saying it will and must happen, but I remember reading that they would like to eventually revisit the universe in a RTS way. I think that Blizz won't do the mistake of WoW2, it will just continue to gradually evolve.I can see at some point maybe between wow expansions they might release an RTS, the story of which is within some sort of limited timeline between the story of expansions. Another way to avoid having to have 12 races is to before the story of the original games... but no clue how that would look.

WoW has covered a huge amount of lore from the series, and since it's an on-going story, I'm not sure how or when they would pick up the Warcraft story for a Warcraft 4.

Now with that being said, I'd still give my left arm for a new Warcraft RTS, even if it was only a multiplayer game with no storyline whatsoever.

Warcraft 4 isn't necessary for quite some time since Starcraft 2 will be rolling out soon.

Warcraft 4 will be used to bridge a lore gap between WoW and WoW 2, since WoW makes them money. Or they'll just have an awesome cinematic opening to WoW 2.

Knowing Blizzard, if they have announced plans to do Warcraft 4, there's a good chance there is already some development happening on the game. Blizzard has a history of developing games for years before announcing they're even working on one.
That said, Blizzard is currently developing 4 games (Cataclysm, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and another MMO they haven't announced), 5 if you count the ongoing work on Wotlk, so I think they're development resources probably have their hands full for at least another year or 2... But hey, being Blizzard fans, we're used to waiting, but we know the games are worth waiting for.
