For whatever reason whenever Warhammer Online is brought up (in another thread but because the OP himself thought better of the topic I decided to just start my own) I feel compelled to defend it. Probably because they promised to fix everything wrong with the genre and I believed them. The game might have had a smooth launch but it wasn't finished; in the sense that they didn't live up to all their promises, and some just weren't working. Mythic could not have predicted that everyone would scenario queue and nothing else. Nor can they force their players to play a certain way.

However, 6 months later I can stop saying "give it 6 months". I'm ready to lay down the verdict. The game is awesome and if you try it and still don't like it, then no worries don't turn and look back. They're promising to make it an all around better game in the next big patch http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=611 but after six months its hard to keep on saying, "just wait a little longer". Still, I feel like I can begin recommending it whole-heartedly.

Just to flesh it out as a thread I also want to turn it into a survey, so feel free to chip in on your thoughts.

+They can't force players to do it, but they can give absurdly good incentives. Open RvR is now a major component of the game with plenty of players and they've made it so you get influence rewards for doing them. Scenarios still exist and are tons of fun, but offer less xp/reknown and no guaranteed item rewards (enemy players might still give item drops however).

+No more running two zones away to get to a flight master, there are more flight masters so you don't have to spend 10 minutes getting somewhere.

+More classes, with the promise of 2 more classes (technically just being put back in)

+Easy PQs for when only one or two other people are online.

+There's been a special event almost every month. The special events themselves are "meh" but give incentives to try out every aspect of the game because they require both RvR and PvE.

-There aren't enough people at all times of the day. Since the game requires grouping and parties to do most of the really fun content, if you aren't playing at primetime it can be a big solo-fest. The severity of this problem ranges depending on server and what tier you are currently playing.

-Still tons of bugs. (supposedly being fixed)

-Crafting is still terrible. (supposedly being fixed)

-Because the doors have so much HP, even with a full warband and no players contesting you, keep sieges just take so freaking long. Not difficult, just time consuming. Again depending on time of day/server/tier there might not be any keeps to even siege when you log on.

-That late game content is mostly inaccessible because it takes A LOT of effort to raid a city. On Sylvania at least, I don't think one side has yet to beat the other.

I don't play because I'm just not that into the setting. A 40,000K MMO would have me by the balls.

I played it for three months at launch and though I greatly enjoyed some aspects (RvR, keep sieges), the game felt very grindy, with the community too seperated across tiers/areas (and only interested in grinding scenarios for the reknown they gave). If things have improved I would be interested in giving it another look as I love the WH setting.
Its also a shame the europe support is so inferior to what seems to be offered to US players.

And why are you so calm, I thought you'd be frothing at the mouth/humping random things out out joy?

And I just never got into MMo's other than Guild Wars, but If I did I would so go to WAR, not WoW, as I have heard that it is slightly better than WoW, which only wins due to people being addicted.

I'm in the exact same boat, but I have a bit more to add to my list.

The grindy nature of PVE was dull. I know it wasn't built for it, but the PVE content was just bad. Really, really bad. At first I liked it a lot. However, when I realized that 1-40 was exactly the same PVE content repeated... I lost interest.

Then I switched to doing nothing but RVR and... well, it got pretty dull. Keep sieges where fun, but ultimately imbalanced similarly to DAoC. However, unlike DAoC, my character felt no different than any other character of the same class. We always had the same items, the same spells, and very similar builds. It was really dull.

And the same thing happened with players from the other side as well. I knew that every Bright Wizard would have the same PVP gear, the same build, and would be using the same spells. It was this 'same'ness that really... well, made it dull.

The combat was alright. It wasn't anything spectacular. Of course, after playing AoC, most combat in games has felt really bland and average.

Aaaaaalso, the itemization was really, really, really, really bad. I never felt special or unique.

I also didn't like the plethora of CC that was present, which was a shame as they TOUTED for the longest time that there would be less CC than in DAoC. Sadly, there are more types of CC in WAR and even more classes have access to more varieties of CC. It's much, much worse and that just isn't appealing to me at all.

If all of this stuff has changed I'll give it a shot. Until then...

Also, NO CHOPPA? AJSHFKJs. At least it's coming out in a downloadable 'expansion'.

If they made the game good since October, I might pay $15 again.

Maybe in March, and maybe I'll make other character except for my level 21...? Engineer.

You said it.

If a decent 40K MMO is ever released it will murder my social life like a Khornite with a chain axe.

I played Warhammer Online. It is packed with good ideas but it just didn't grab me. Probably for the best, stupid addictive personality.

Well, I didn't renew my subscription when my original 90 days ran out. However, I might take a look at it again in a few months (presuming I only have to purchase game time and not an expansion pack or anything).
I'm not really an MMO kind of gamer- my genre of choice has mostly been FPS. I've always liked tabletop Warhammer though, which is what persuaded me to actually try an MMO- so I'm willing to give it another go.

As optimistic as I am and as much of a 40k lore fan as I am I still know that due to human nature its going to be bad. Allow me to demonstrate my point by assuming that every race will (eventually) be in the game.

Firstly there is the commonly raised issue of factions and as technically noone in the 40k universe is wholly good (its part of the games appeal) and the fact that they all hate each other (with the exception of the imperium) how do you split the races? They would have to be split into the forces of order and disorder (as in Dawn of war winter assault) placing the imperium (space marines, humans~I say humans becuase Im counting inquisition with guardsmen~ and sisters of battle), eldar, tau and the forces of disorder would be the 5 forces of chaos (one of each power and then the followers of the eightfold path~chao undivided), orcs, dark eldar and this leaves the necrons on their own (their urge to purge the galaxy of life is technically a means to promote order but it is a disorder method) and the tyranids. As mentioned before these races all hate each other with the only alliances generally temporary ones of convienience between eldar and imperium or manipulative ones between the orcs and chaos.

Then there is the element of human nature I suggested earlier; some races will not be played while other are ridicolously overpopulated-it is a certainty. I currently believe that if all the races were implemented the only ones with a viable player base would be chaos, space marines and orcs. Guardsmen and eldar would have a resonable following and maybe tyranids, Dark elder and sisters of battle would be ignored and necrons would be oversubscribed (because they would be super imbalanced being the immortal killing machines they are.)

I have heard that War is very well made by developers and GMs that actualy like their game and want to improve it rather than it just being a cash machine like the developers of WoW seem to consider their game.

I remember being one of the better Witch hunters on my Warhammer server but sadly all the PvP (or RvR as they call it) didn't appeal to me as much as i thought it would. So sadly now the game sits on my shelf and i will maybe one day look back and think of playing again, but It was a good game and earned a place on the shelf unlike AGE OF CONAN who earned it's place in my trash bin.

If the 40K MMO is good, I wouldplay it in a heartbeat after 5 years without WOW (or any MMO). It might be a good idea to mix the traditional styles of MMO's with online shooters -especially for the Tau players! =)

But then I heard it won't be an MMOFPS, and that made me go like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s].

Anyway, I played WAR for the first 30 days, was kind of dissapointed. First of all, the world didn't pull me in as WoW or LOTRO did. Mainly because of the lack of proper ambient music (there was some theme music, not a lot but what was there was good) and the world is very chopped up. WoW and LOTRO for example, are really 'geographically correct': you can, technically, follow a river from stream to sea through various area's. That is very important for me in an MMO, when I look at a map from the Warhammer world, I can't see that map back in the game. I found the gameplay itself pretty enjoyable, although there was a lot of CC I really liked the combat. Although I didn't enjoy keep-sieges that much, since it was simply a matter of zerging against the door of the keep for long enough (unlike Wintergrasp, with it's destroyable walls, wich gives you more tactical options). I may try it again when the chopper comes out (I REAAAAALLY looked forward to that class, although I enjoyed my Black Orc a lot as well). But I think that the lack of a 'real world' turned me off for good, but who knows.

Warhammer Online has had me since launch. I almost cried when I couldn't actually play it for another two days (didn't buy a timecard at launch).

I played this game with a couple of my real life friends like 3 months after launch for 1 month. We all really just felt it lacked soul. So I gave it up,let it down, and desert it. Trust me I really wanted to like this game it just really lacked unqiue graphics in my opinion
