yeh the new sonic unleashed is acctually pretty good
You're the only person I've ever heard say that...
I have to agree. Sonic Unleashed is pretty good. So were Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and Sonic Heroes was okay. Almost all the 2-D games were good but the 3-D games that are good are really good.

sonic adventure on the dreamcast
And Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
And Sonic '06.
And Sonic Unleashed.
I hated 06, but the other two were okay.

I voted "Both rule", but let's be honest, I think we all knew that 2D would get the most votes by a longshot.

Do we really need a poll with more than one option? We all know that the 2D games are better than the 3D games.

I personally think it can be done in 3D but the Sonic team is suffering from immeasurable retardation when it comes to what they do with their central character. Leave out all the bull, get back to being just Sonic (Tails too maybe) and having fast platforming stages with big loops and stuff.

I think most people associate their happy memories with the series back when it was in 2D. That's good and fine and everything, and personally I don't have a problem with 2D if it is done in a compelling way (The Lunar series is still on my list of top games of all time, yes I know something is wrong with me, then again maybe I'm suffering from the same condition) But we must think about how to modernize Sonic to meet the hardware advances of today. Something that doesn't involve Sonic in a ridiculous plot line/setting (Werewolves, Knights, human girl love interest... the hell were they on?)

I think the 2D games were better (as in the Genesis games, not so much the rush series) but the day time levels in unleashed were a step in the right direction, they played well and were fun.

3D was better. I don't care what anyone says. 3D is far better than 2D.

The 3D games have plot lines. Not the overused "Let's stop Eggman/Robotnik for the hundredth time"

The 3D games have a lot of good points. And I can't think of many legitimate bad points.
You're the first (and maybe last) person that I've seen on this forum to have the balls to say that.

Anyway, in case anyone cares, the critical reception for SatBK so far has been mixed (some have been positive, others have been negative), just like almost every Sonic game that has come out in the past 7 or 8 years.

2D, there is no contest here...

Every 3d sonic game I have played has been pathetic, with the exception of Sonic Adventures, but that was bad compared to the original 2D ones.

Neither, Sonic was never good. It was boring in Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3D, and all it's iterations. Oh yeah, I get to run really fast, deal with extremely limited and simplistic platformer gameplay, and finally get to experience some fun by actually accelerating through the levels, and I hit some random enemy that didn't quite load, and get to bounce back and hear those damn rings crash. Or I get to jump from platform to platform and dodge enemies with very set patterns and navigate complex obstacles with a character that couldn't stop on a dime if he was a Jewish lawyer. It's amazing that his supposedly bad-ass attitude led to such a cult following though. Because jumping on robot bunnies is so much more hardcore than stomping on walking mushrooms.

May I just say, SONIC FANS have been giving mixed reviews. Pretty much everyone else has the same verdict.

"Nice graphics. Shitty plot. Butchering of English legend."

Do we count the Rush games (3-d side scrollers) if so then yes.
That's 2.5D.

If they ditched all this 3D rubbish and concentrated on a kickass looking 2D, back to basics sonic, I mean properly bringing him back to his roots (sonic 1,2,3, & knuckles), suped up the graphics and concentrated on insane level design. perhaps with 3D graphics (New super Mario Brothers style) but side scrolling and next gen.
Who wouldn't buy it?
They did that already, it's called Sonic Rush, for the DS.

As has been mentioned, Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast (quite possibly the most underrated console ever).

Damn. I see a Sonic 2D post like every week, and it's well known that nearly everyone would prefer him back in 2D. What spawns these topics?
