Anything that's free is fine; if you don't like it, you can delete it. I haven't played it, but I'm going to buy L4D soon and several Xbox Live friends who own it have given the DLC glowing recommendations.

Everyone is complaining about the melee cooldown, which was added in early march... At least for PC players
Seriously?
Then I've been playing for a month without noticing... was it only in versus to begin with or something?
Yea its been around for awhile. I think it may have only been in versus. But lets face it, the game was way too easy to win without the cool down. When me and my friends played an entire game (advanced difficulty) without firing a single bullet (except for the finale tanks) I think it needs to be nerfed a bit.

As for the rest of the DLC. Absolutely fantastic. Haven't tried the new versus levels yet, having too much fun on the survival mode.

Also, has anyone else noticed a glitch in survival mode where bots won't attack common infected? I've had a couple of times where the bot (doesn't matter who) will stand there and get mauled by hoards of zombies, but will still attack the special infected when they show up.

I'm going to say no because I stopped caring about left 4 dead months ago. The DLC content patch should have been released back in january, but microsoft halted the release of it because they wanted the pc and xbox updates syncronized.

So my answer in short, it can't be a let down if you don't care about it. I remember a day when microsoft didn't pay asstons of money so pc game developers would develop games and content exclusively for the xbox and force them to abide by ridiculous rules and constraints. I remember days when map packs weren't called "DLC" they were simply... map packs. Mods weren't new games... they were mods. Those days are long gone now, thanks to xbox live (and steam).

Third party modding was where it was at, where people developed excellent, fun games and distributed them for free, for the love of coding, gaming, and the occasional donation. Christ i miss those days.

When you think about it, melee cooldown is just another part of the game's atmosphere. You play as one of 4 survivors all of whom are just regular people. They've been surviving for awhile against these thing and probably don't have much left in them. The only soldier looks to be either retired or about to. The biker isn't a huge hulking behemoth. The girl is wearing too much clothing to be a typical action game female who displays no emotions and acts as a love intrest to the overly powerful hero. And the office worker... well how much upper body strength do you get from typing? They're not exactly ready to spam melee attacks.
Oh, and Valve remains to be the single best game producer by providing us with this free of charge.

no of course not its free

above that anyone who doesnt melea spam should have been rewarded earlier

exactly how does this make sence: you are being swarmed by 100 zombies and you keep them all away using meleas WHAT THE HELL? more realistic more maps survival all and all good expansion

It was only a letdown to me in the sense of "they didn't include the SDK with it intially, like I thought they would."

a) it's free.
b) it includes a new and challenging play mode
c) it includes new versus content
d) it includes one new map

I'd have to say, it was really fun last night (well, except that the servers were helaciously overburdened. We got dropped about 10 times), and I'm looking forward to playing it again this evening.

So... entertainment value of (paid nothing) divided by est. 10 hours of entertainment thus far = better than any other entertainment value out there.

The melee cooldown happens too early. It makes melee almost useless now. The horde is barely affected by 5-6 hits. I like the idea, but I think more melees should be allowed before the cooldown occurs

Ok, so let me first say that I play Left 4 Dead on the PC.

The melee cooldown was my fav part of the last update. No longer could a survivor sit in the corner on a room during a hoarde invasion and just melee them. And with the cooldown it adds realism, no one on earth can swing a gun forever and not get tired.

The new versus maps were a great add. Now I can offically play the other two maps. (yay for playing on the pc and having servers be able to add custom maps)

Survival is just a blast. It's like what every zombie flash game was trying to be. I've only been able to survive for about 7min, I've never seen so many tanks.

Not at all, in fact it has helped get me interested in Left 4 Dead again, for I started to get tired of the same old routine of shoot zombie, run, shoot zombie, scramble to safehouse...

What I mean is, that it gave the game more variety because now you could play the classic type of zombie flick where you bunker down in some cabin and try to hold off the continuous waves, or play the regular campaign/versus mode. And I feel that the melee cooldown is a good addition for two reasons:
1) In certain modes (especially Versus) the game would often be too easy and bland because it would just turn into a marathon of running to the corner and tapping the melee button repeatedly.
2) And, it really complements the new mode because you can no longer just smack them back like nothing, but rather the waves upon waves truly become a scary threat as they tear through the doors and windows.

All in all, I feel it was a satisfying download, especially considering it was free. Definitely worth getting.

Melee cooldown = Fantastic.

Seriously, even if I can't run through the levels doing nothing but punching zombies now, at least it's fair. It really provides a challenge when you play with friends, which should e every time you play...honestly, who plays with randoms? Gross.

It never fails to amaze me the amount of people that state "omg free content - it sucks". Its FREE, they haven't been paid for it, and personally Vavle deserve a bloody medal for the amount of free content they provide, including the fact they are providing it for free for 360 users as well. What makes me laugh even more, is these people that state "omg its free it sucks" are usually the type to pay above the odds for crappy download maps such as 3 halo 3 maps etc

Me and some friends managed 10:30 without using glitches. Holy fuck did we get our asses handed to us when the tank came and we only had pistols.

Can't really complain about something that's free, especially the versus mode, since if you don't like it, you don't ever have to play it again if you don't want to.

...but I haven't played it yet, so we'll see.

I enjoy it greatly. The only issue I have is that the finale needs to not have a tank before the event is started. Nothing quite like having a tank climb into the safe room in the first 30 seconds.

Melee cooldown should have been including since the beginning. Seriously. I mean, you already have shit like moving slowly when you've been badly hurt, and having to pull people up from the ground when they could easily just stand up themselves.

The melee cooldown is just another addition of the "necessary realism" (because this game still isn't realistic), to stop people from totem poling in a corner and swinging their arms never getting tired.
