Normal DS is $20 cheaper than the lite and all you get is a slightly smaller model. Just get the normal one, that's what I did 2 months ago and I was able to get it for dirt cheap on ebay.

I'd say anything but DS, which is what I have. If you lose your charge cord for it, you're shit outta luck, 'cause they don't sell them in stores anymore. Other than that, I haven't tried any of the other ones, but I could only assume there'd be an improvement, albeit a price hike to go along.

I'd go with both a DSL and a DSi.

I'm gonna get a DSi when more fun stuff that uses the hardware comes out, but I loves my DSL.

If you can only choose one, go with the lite, it does everything you need and you can always "upgrade" later.

If you want to play GBA games then go with the DS Light it is better than the original and is the only one besides the original that can play GBA games.

For the longest time I have voiced my disdain towards the DSi and the newer DSiXL. The biggest problem with them is that they CAN'T PLAY GBA GAMES. No backwards compatibility is an instant no-no for me.

That being said, my friend bought a DSiXL recently. I must say, the improved resolution and bigger screen size make it seem like an ACTUAL upgrade. Everything else is moot, the cameras, the music player, internet... Who cares? It's a GAME system. But the XL gives the actual GAMES a boost. A small one, but a boost nonetheless.

If you really want a higher resolution and slightly better looking games (not by much mind you), I would reccomend the DSi XL. Otherwise, get a DS lite. It's more compact than a DS and has a better backlit screen.

Money isn't really a factor, and was just wondering about GB games because I still have one laying around somewhere, but I guess I could still play it on my GBA or my old pocket, wherever that thing is... I love my pokemon blue version. :p

DS lite, handheld games are suppose to be portable. DSi has special features you will probably never use and you can't play old games on it, and if you want a DSXL get a netbook instead. It has an even bigger screen and you can play all your favorite classics with an emulator.

Just buy a DS lite. They aren't too expensive, and to my knowledge work pretty well.
What's the point in portable game system that's hardly good for anything else?

If you have too much money to sink, at least buy something equally large but with other benefits... Like some kind of media system like Archos.

I mean, look at it logically. Do you REALLY spend that much time outside of your home - and thus without contact to more traditional and shall I say powerful gaming consoles - absolutely bored and with little need for much coordination or use of your hands?

If you drive, probably not. If you don't, that might be somewhat useful even though I still wouldn't consider it such a good investment... Hell, if I had money to throw away (can't right now, saving for a new computer/laptop), I'd just buy one of those 100 gig or so Archos media platforms. Music, movies, tv series, and other applications are all possible. And there's internet, too.

... I'd finally be able to catch up with all the anime while I'm on the bus or something.

The DSi (XL) can only play DS games. The DS Lite (and Phat), however, can play GBA games.

However, if you can wait a year (or two) the 3DS is coming out, which will have backwards compatibility with normal DS games. You can solve the lack of GB games with a GBA SP, which (to my knowledge) already has a backlight, and is quite cheap.

I would personally get a DSI XL, although it is true that GBA games are not compatible but there is a way round that if you are willing to do something "evil" if you know what a R4 chip is then you know what im on about.

DSI (and DSi XL/LL) have a far better specs than DS and DS Lite which is very useful if Nintendo start to push the DS that little bit further not to mention that it would also be useful if you might browser the internet away from home via hotspots

the XL/LL is just for the pure luxury and there is a noticeable difference in graphics when being compared to the previous models however the large stylus seems very odd when using it for the first time.....well it did for me

Got a DS Lite at Game Stop today, and it came with the most badass thing ever: A little Star Wars case type thing with two lightsaber thingies to poke the screen with... don't remember what they are called...

Don't get a DS now. They're making that 3ds sometime and when that comes out, out will come out a new series of games incompatible with the original DS.

I think the consensus is get the DSL. I have one and I think there the tradeoff of being able to play GBA games is better than having a camera.
