So I finally got the chance to play Portal 1 today, (Yes, I know it took me forever) an spent the afternoon playing it. When I finished, Steam told me that it took me a little over 4 hours to beat it. Is this an average play-time, or am I just really thick? I only ask because I see people who say it took them under 2 hours the first time, granted a lot of my delay was dealing with my computer's terrible frame rate and just looking around, but that definitely doesn't constitute hours extra.

It's no crime to pay some attention to the environment, or to be stuck on certain puzzles a while. It's above average, but then again average always means some take longer, some take less.

That's the joy of a puzzle game... You can only get through it as quickly as you can function...

Or depending on how many distractions you had going on at the time...
Portal 1 for me was only an hour long, whereas some of my friends couldn't finish it within 5...
Mostly after getting frustrated and rage-quitting because the funny talking turrets continued to kill him...

Also when it comes to the Steam timer, it is as broken as a very broken thing that has been broken again. You have actually been playing the game anything between five minutes and seven days.

People who beat it in 2 hours on their first play through... are lying.

Or they watched a walk-through online first and already knew all the puzzles. There is really no way to beat it in 2 hours without being familiar with it first.

Also, the Steam timer sucks. It says I've spent 78 hours playing Mass Effect. I've spent 100+ hours playing Mass Effect.

You really shouldn't judge yourself based on how long it took you to beat a game. I hated it when people complained that Portal 2 was too long cause they beat it in 5 hours when it took me like 12 hours.
It's not the ones who take too long that bug me, it's the ones that don't take long and feel the need to tell everyone about it. Oh, rant coming on!

This one time in L4D2 I was playing a usual game on versus. The first round my team got creamed and most ragequitted, but I stayed. I stopped caring about the winning part, I just liked playing as and against intelligent zombies. However, this one player on the other team would constantly tell us how many kills he got every round and was dissapointed that he wouldn't get to 1000 at the end of the game. Considering how many people ragequit on L4D versus, I thought I was being nice staying in the game like that even though I was losing. It's just when the other team is being a sore winner that makes me rage

.......What were we talking about again?

Yes, that seems about right. NOW try Portal 2 and be frustrated with the amount of time THAT takes you.

I have been able to beat it in about that time but that was only after several playthroughs. Four hours is perfectly respectable.

Sounds just about right to me. It took me about five hours on my first playthrough.

I'm a thick bastard...

Sounds like a reasonable time. Now tack on some challenge maps and you're looking at a good 8 hours total. The first time it took me about 5 hours to finish.

The first time I went through Portal it took me about 4 hours.
The second time I did it I speed ran it in half an hour (That was really fun)

Trying to gold metal some of the maps took me over an hour on one chamber.

There's a level in Portal Still Alive on XBLA that took me 2 hours to finish in least portals.

If you count all the times I've replayed it I've probably spent 48 hours on it.

4 hours is perfectly reasonable.

And I didn't bother with the challenge maps, I'd rather not go full on masochist just yet..

Steam doesn't know what it's talking about. Some of us play around, others get legitimately stuck. It happens.

If your still having fun at the end, then it's a success whether it took you 2 hours or 2 years.
