4 hours is a perfectly acceptable amount of time to beat portal. It took me almost 3, and I'd played through the entire game with my friend on his 360 before I got it for my PC. Then I attempted some of the challenge maps, and I still haven't beaten all of them. I just don't have the dedication to try something that ridiculous.

My first play through was around 45-55 minutes.

I didn't really savor it, which may be why I didn't like it.

People who beat it in 2 hours on their first play through... are lying.

Or they watched a walk-through online first and already knew all the puzzles. There is really no way to beat it in 2 hours without being familiar with it first.

Also, the Steam timer sucks. It says I've spent 78 hours playing Mass Effect. I've spent 100+ hours playing Mass Effect.

Well, my steam says I beat it in 2 hours which I know it wasn't; much closer to 5 or something.

I took about four hours as well, and I don't think I got stuck on puzzles really that often.

What I did do was listen to all the GlaDOS-comments and soaked up the atmosphere of the game. And that's exactly what I don't get of all those people that played for only 2 hours or so; you threw away half the game! It like eating only the cheese of a cheeseburger and then proudly exclaiming you threw all the meat away.

Just because someone's completed it in.. I think it's something absurd like 23 minutes - doesn't mean you should feel compelled to complete it quickly. I hope you enjoyed this gem of a game.

I can't remember how long it took me the first time through, just that it takes me around one-two hours after about 5 times through it. There are still a few places I get stuck at but mostly I think four hours isn't that bad a time if it is your first

About 2-3 hours is what I've heard from most people. So no, 4 hours is not the average play-time based on that. You don't have to think of yourself as thick just because of that though

Doesn't really matter how long you take, the point is you enjoy the game.

It took me 2hours and 10-20minsish when I completed it, but I didn't get all the transmissions.

So I finally got the chance to play Portal 1 today, (Yes, I know it took me forever)

Yay, late Portal-finder!
4 years late, like me.. but hey

I'm not sure how long Portal 1 is taking me - I'm actually scared to look now, because I've actually had to get my boyfriend round to help me out of tricky puzzles. So even if it took you ages, remember I had to run for help... twice! :L

4 hours sounds pretty good though. So long as you ran around and had fun too.
