It has many practical and beneficial uses, there is a point where it will become too much but anyone with a smidgen of will power would have no problem controlling themselves on it, unlike alcohol.

I've never smoked weed, and I most likely never will. However, if there was a vote to legalise it in Sweden, I'd vote for. I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to take responsibility for their smoking while at the same time getting the state more tax money.

And it's not like laws against weed prevent people from smoking it if they want to.

Two times in my life. The first one was great, the second was a bad trip, and I'll NEVER ever do it again.

Blargh, that was horrible!

From some rudimentary knowledge I picked up somewhere, cannabis remains in the system for a week or two, so you'd best make sure you wait a while before you take that test.

I don't smoke it, and never will, but I'd actually legalise it, if only to get some governmental control over an easily-removable part of the criminal underworld. Yeah, that's right, I'd legalise the stuff just to help the Man; more money with taxation, and it would probably lower the overall amount of people smoking it (less grumpiness from the prim and proper patrol), since most countries that have legalised cannabis have a rather low percentage of users.

"it is less bad then alcohol"

that is debatable.

"weed does not make you stupid, it does not kill your brain cells like alcohol"

so, wait. you have proof?

"Its natural."

*cough* what isn't?

Its Grrrrrreat.

And it goes well with frosted flakes.

I really hopes my state legalizes it this November.

Smoking weed apparently makes your grammar, spelling, and syntax go down the fucking toilet. Are we really discussing this? There are pros and cons to everything, but that doesn't automatically determine what makes something good or bad. Driving drunk means that you won't have to pay for a cab ride home. That's a good thing, right?

For the record, I have no issue with marijuana. I smoke it on occasion and really enjoy it, but I don't understand why it merits so much defending...

Got to say, I'd rather it stay semi-illegal in Canada, mostly because if they ever legalized it I'm sure the Ontario government would make it still illegal to grow it without a government license. Weed would probably end up an attempted government monopoly, like alcohol in the Beer Store. I'm also sure that they'd tax the hell out of it. I am NOT going to Quebec for my bloody spliffs. So for right now I'm completely fine with people thinking weed is 'bad', even though I know that it's basically a harmless substance some people enjoy.

It destroys brain cells more then faster then alcohol. And The reason it's illegal is because this is exactly why people can't do it cause THIS WILL HAPPEN if it's legal. Car wrecks will be on the rise. People will die.

I've smoked a lot of weed. I've smoked from bongs, pipes, joints, pinapples, apples, coke cans, vaporizers... had magic cookies and brownies...

It was great for a while. Getting high was just a great trip. But after a while I noticed that getting high just didn't bring me to that same state. It wasn't that I was smoking too much, exactly - at the worst it was about 1 joint a day during the week, tho some weekends were bad I'd smoke like 4 Js or several bowls... but anyway even stopping for a week or month just didn't get me back to that same happy, giddy place where it started. I've since quit smoking it. Haven't bought any in more than a year now. I have had it oh... twice maybe 3 times in that timeframe just having a smoke with a friend who still does it or whatever. Still not getting me to that level of high it used to. I actually find it's kind of boring now.

But I do think it is FAR better than alcohol, in nearly every way. As mentioned, no hang overs, it's cheaper to get high than to get drunk, it doesn't shrink your brain or cause liver failure. Yes, it can hurt your lungs but there's other methods of injestion that are basically harmless (eating and vaporizing).

I don't agree that it's not addictive. It is. The THC uses up a lot of dopamine to make you feel great. When that dopamine is used up, you wind up in a state of depression. Might be worse for some than others, but one thing that is the same is that you'll want to feel happy again and for many people, they just light another one up. Bam feeling good. Until it wears off, and then you're depressed and want to smoke again. This doesn't happen if you only smoke very very occasionally because you should have enough dopamine that it doesn't all get used up, but constant smoking basically drops your dopamine levels right down to nil, which is where the addiction can start.

One thing alcohol does have over weed, tho, is it gives confidence. For some, like me, that can turn a night out into a great time since I'll have no problem walking up to the hottest chick and asking her to dance or whatever, while normally I'm pretty shy to do that kind of thing. Weed generally increases shyness, or at least quietness. It often causes a lot of internal reflection which occasionally causes paranoia. But if you're comfortable it's often not bad, just fun times.

Anyway, like anything, it's bad in excess.

That's incorrect.

It kills nothing, it only uses up some chemicals, namely dopamine, which accounts for how it feels so good.

Driving high is significantly less dangerous than driving drunk, but neither are a good thing.

Why are you writing this here? The community has been through this discussion hundreds of times before and are usually torn on the subject. A large portion of the site smokes the substance (Some of which are legally allowed to do so, others are breaking the law), but an equally large portion of the site doesn't like marijuana, be it for the sterotypes or the fact that they just don't like it. The discussion never changes and we always end up going in circles. I understand that pretending the subject doesn't exist isn't good either, but the least we can do is not make threads about it anymore when the outcome of said thread can be predicted.

That said, I simply find Marijuana bad because I just don't like it. I've grown up with a smoker for a mom, one who can't really go an hour without a cigarette and let me tell ya, a lot of the time, she smokes in the car. I've always hated the smell of smoke, Marijuana and Tobacco and if there is any big pet peeve of mine, it's walking into the poorly ventilated bathroom of my school and smelling nothing, but that. It doesn't help that the people who smoke in my school fit the stereotypes. They are loud, they are annoying, they are idiots, they only talk about smoking (And in some cases, growing it) and they make it really difficult to justify that Marijuana doesn't kill brain cells and doesn't have a negative effect on the body. You wanna blame someone for the law against the drug? Blame these guys, they're the ones that make it difficult to defend your culture.
