No one seems to have mentioned the significance of the phrase yet, I'm sure most of you already know but for those of you that don't I'll explain (For once I get to be the person that appears to know something!)
The phrase contains every letter in the alphabet, making it valuable for testing communication systems (Such as Morse code), keyboards, and even handwriting. I personally use it every time I set up a microphone, as it sounds better than "testing, testing 1 2 3". I assume that the Easter egg in which it appears is nothing but a left over test for the program. As for the egg that the op mentioned, I've heard it before, but hopefully new people will discover it this way (Not that it's amazing or anything, but such eggs are always fun)
