Put an option for "Like them both" because I have favorite RPGs on both sides of the spectrum and don't prefer one over the other.
I haven't made many threads. How do you edit a both option?
I think if you edit one of your own posts thats not the OP you can edit the poll.

Western: Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. Period.

JRPGs: I only like Pokemon.

Are most JRPGs even RPGs? I'm not saying this in a bad way, it's just a matter of naming, but many JRPGs have little skill choice, minimal equipment choice and pre-determined stat growth. You also often play a pre-defined character with his/her own personality.

What makes it a JRPG and not a JG?

Western: Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout 1,2 and 3, the Witcher, Morrowind and several others.

JRPGS: Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy IX, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean 3, Jade Cocoon, Legend of Legaia and more.

They each have a different style to offer, I don't think one style is "better" then the other overall, but I find Western ones take more risks in terms of both game play and story. That's not to say JRPGS don't, it's just that I think the west do it a bit more :)

Which do you prefer. What is your favorite game in each. My favorite Western is a tie between Oblivion and Fallout 3. Shining Force is my favorite JRPG.
Dude. I love Shining Force. One of my top 10 games.

Western all the way, though. I find JRPGs to be bland and similar to each other. Gameplay wise they may be fine, but I might as well play a western RPG and get just as good of gameplay but with better atmosphere, plot, etc.

WRPG: Fallout 3
JRPG: Dark Cloud 2

I love JRPGs and WRPGs both equally, although due to stereotypes that I've been stupid enough to believe, I've just recently gotten into JRPGs, and love them.

Gotta go with western on this one. Morrowind was the first RPG I ever played where I had a choice in how my character developed. I havent been able to go back to JRPG's since. Seems that most of them are just cosplay inducing fodder.

Never played a JRPG, so I'm a little biased

My favorite rpgs are basically Bioware's entire lineup.

WRPG:
Mass Effect 2. Although I loved Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Fallou 1 & 2, Mass Effect 2 takes the crown.

JRPG:
Final Fantasy IX was the best of the FF series for me, and also pretty much the best jrpg I played.

But yeah, I'm a wprgs man, it seems as I grow older, the less I like jrpgs.

It would appear that every "Western" RPG I've bought over the last few years has always needed patching (several times) before it's finished and ready to play.

Maybe they have higher standards in Japan, but it seems to me that in the Western World, RPG makers only ever seem to release Beta versions of their games.

I honestly have to admit it was JRPG's that got me into gaming:

East: Pokemon Red and Golden Sun

West: Fallout 3!!!
