My theory is slowly get one of my own species to slowly build up in the ranks of the government in a very powerful country.
Create distraction and disasters and blame them on other countries so that the world thinks that another country done it and we start a war with that country, and then have a conspiracy saying that we only started the war for something else.
Then I would let someone success our agent and try and let the world get better and try to stop the war, but everyone already hates the country that started the war, so different countries at times get into a war with eachother. Then once only one country is left, I would go down and say " WELL DONE! you have completed the test of pleasing us, you are welcome to either stay here and live and breed and re-populate the world, of which we will destroy every thing mechanical and what would make your life more easy to live and you will have to create every invention again OR come with us and live in paradise with everything you will ever need."
And with human nature they will go for the easier option of course, so I would punish them by killing them all and Having my way with all of the top standard females and then set fire to all of the bodies and let nature take it's course after we get rid of all of the buildings and rubble.
