I really like the idea of a MMOFPS, however, I really disliked the graphics style that they used. I dislike it to the point where I wouldn't play the game. APB looks like a far superior MMOFPS anyway.
You do realise it isn't a MMOFPS, as the online is 4 player co-op - what the game was built for, APB is MMO in the same sense WoW is with lots and lots of players in a persistant world.

Also I wish people would stop comparing Borderlands to Fallout 3, both are great games and are in fact very different, Borderlands is FPS with rpg elements, whilst Fallout 3 is an RPG with fps elements.

a billion guns but only four characters... WTF?
There's about eight guns.

Unless you think "Shotgun of Hurty +1" is a "different gun" to "Shotgun of Boomage +4".
Thats like saying a sig sauer P226 is the same or just a"tiny bit" different from a Desert Eagle. They are both pistols but you would not say they are the same gun. Its the same in borderlands. There might be a shotgun that shoots lead pellets that light the enemy on fire and a shotgun that shoots rockets but that doesnt mean they are the same.
And I have used both of those shotguns you described in-game.
GOD i wish i was playing this game right now instead of waiting for the 26th... damn delayed PC version.

Hate to break it to you, but according to Steam, this comes out on the 30th for computers.

APB is actually only 100 players so to many would not be considered an mmo but yeah.

Wait borderlands is coming out on the 30th? I havent seen any news saying anything about the 30th. Im guessing if anything steam is just wrong and it will still be downloadable off steam on the 26th. either that or you are looking at europe or australia release dates because the game comes out on the 30th in Europe and aus.

I bought it somewhat blindly, having never really followed the title's development (all I knew was that it was an FPS RPG). That said, during my two hours of the game, I had a blast. It's like WoW from an RPG perspective, but its an FPS through and through. The co-op makes the game even more worthwhile (I'm playing on the 360, but I hope the PS3's issues get resolved quickly).

got it preordered on the pc (release date pushed back  and then put back due to royal mail strike in uk ) so a few questions that i would really appriciate the answers to folks who have played it... how big is the game world? is it broken up into load sections (ie farcry 2) is it open? (again unlike fc2 which had narrow paths to everywere with a few open areas) and what is the area restirction, invisible walls etc...

Lets just say if you want something a little more fun than halo/diablo and/or fallout 3 then you should get it.

Let this video convince ya'll. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmUJrKGN3C0]

All right, despite my uneasiness about Borderlands being developed by Gearbox (the same twats who made Halo), after watching a few gameplay videos for the game, I became convinced that they had learned an important lesson about FPS's: shooty-stabby gameplay is only if each kill is satisfying and if you have a decent story giving you a clear goal. Okay, okay, so Borderland's story seems to be about nothing other than a massive treasure hunt, but still, that's far more plausible than Halo's ridiculousness. And as long as they characterize the enemies consistantly (unlike the Covenant, who are as likely to curse you out as laugh about their own imminent deaths), the game should be all right. And yeah, I have played and played Fallout 3 to death (and every DLC except Mothership Zeta), but I found that I only enjoyed the gameplay once I installed some mods. And really, if I have to install user-made content for the game to be fun (don't get me wrong, I still love Fallout 3 for its semi-branching storyline), then the core gameplay must be flawed somewhat. So anyway, I just pre-ordered Borderlands on Steam and the pre-load is downloading as I type this.

Hah, what?
Okay, let me clarify, they made the original Halo. Not the 2nd and 3rd installments (check their website... just google it already). And as you should have guessed from my description I hate the Halo series. I have at one point played at least 2 hours worth of each installment in the series, and they all suffer for two reasons: poor animation and sound. The death animations for human and all alien characters in the games are almost identical, and all of the weapons in the series (up until ODST apparently, if the reviews are to be believed) sound like they were made in a fucking toy shop. No kill under such conditions could possibly be satisfying and/or fun in my book.

No, Gearbox did the PC PORT of Halo 1. The port was actually an above average job, considering the game was tailored for a specific console and never intended to be run on another platform. What you think of the game itself is another matter entirely, as it was made by Bungie, just like the other two.

Dunno if you're old enough to remember Opposing Force expansion for the original Half-Life, but I still think its easily the best of the HL games. I'm probably in the minority in that opinion. Gearbox also made the Brothers in Arms games, but I never played them myself.

Anyway, I've got this preordered on steam. Steam's saying 26 October for me.
