I think it's up to the mother of the child to decide, but... if they're misusing their power (i.e. using abortion as someone would use a condom), then I think the state might have the right to step in at that point.

when this subject is brought to the table i think most agree that in life treatening and/or rape situations it should be legal (and i think it is, here at least) so the discussion is if women that have casual sexual relations that get pregnant should have the right to abort, in this case i would say no. A sexualy active person should be aware of the posibility of getting pregnant and should be prepared in case she does. A woman that cant risk getting pregnant becuase of her life planning or whatever shouldn't have sex at all then IMHO.

i know im referegin only to women but that goes for men too i just didn't want to go trhough the hazzle of making my statement politically correct.

I think every woman should have the choice to have an abortion, I think it's better that you end the life before it has been born so it doesn't know anything than to make the women give birth and have the child raised badly and suffer.

I am not currently pregnant, I am not capable of becoming pregnant. (wrong gender)
Therefore I honestly believe it's none of my business.
The only scenario I think I would have any say at all on the subject is if I was the father.
...and even then I would be more likely to try and support her in whatever choice she made rather than making it for her.

Hm I hope this thread doesn't collapse while I'm typing...Anyway it should be legeal. Frankly I'm too lazy to explain each situation so I'll just say it's the woman carying the babies choice so she should indeed have that choice.

You need another choice because I don't think I'm alone in my opinion here:

I personally don't like abortion. I would advise it only in rare cases like when the mother's life is in danger or if it was a result of incest or something. However, I'm not a woman and even if I was, I wouldn't pretend to know what's best for every pregnant woman out there.
I do think it should be legal and made readily available to any woman who feels it's necessary.

Technically that life doesn't start until the baby bails out (that's why we celebrate birthdays not conception days); until then, it's technically a symbiote at best, parasite at worst.

This is a pretty good point.

However, to bring up yet another hypothetical question, "What if the person gets drunk and has no idea who the father is?" I'm curious to know whether or not people really think this is still a good idea, because a child not knowing a parent, or something of that sort, can be pretty psychologically screwy for kids.

Heck, I'll speak for myself here; I was probably an abortion that should've been done, in my opinion(neither of my birth parents were ready, unmarried, et cetera) but religion barged in and now I'm stuck rather miserably with my adopted parents and for a long time have kinda felt rejected because my birth parents gave me up because they couldn't properly care for me. (Woot run-on sentence)

BUT, in an effort to keep this civilized, yes, adopting your child is an option and chances are most kids don't have the same problems I do. I am a nutcase after all.
