Edit: the last option is supposed to read "I am ambivalent" and "Bioware" is supposed to be "BioWare's response"
So, a lot of people are upset about this whole controversy, but which part really bugs you?
For me, I didn't really care about the ending. I thought it was extremely poorly done and easily the worst part of the entire trilogy, but it didn't raise my blood pressure any. Sometimes you just get bad endings.
What got my attention, though, was the response from various sections of the industry, especially journalists. Most of the big name gaming news outlets came down pretty hard on those who complained about the ending. Terms like "crybabies" and "Entitled" were thrown around like candy on Halloween. I expect that sort of thing from the forums but not "professional" journalists.
The way I see it, people have every right to pissed about the ending if they want. BioWare has every right to ignore them, but nevertheless, consumers have a right to ***** if they want. They PAID for that product.
Journalists are trying to hide the game behind the "art" label. That might work if it were free, but people paid money for this. That makes them consumers. Consumers ALWAYS have a right to ***** about a product if they want.
The whole thing really has me questioning whether Game Journalists are too close to the industry. If they're going to deny gamers the right to even complain about games, that tells you a great deal about where their favor lies. It calls nearly everything they write about into question. Is game A really that good or are they just defending the publisher/developer? Big publisher Y had a falling out with little studio C, but are we just hearing Y's side of things?
I don't know. I just lost a lot of respect for "Journalists" when they started defending the very industry they're supposed to be reporting on.
