The character roles I play in game, and the actual role I follow in real life, are two completely different scenarios...

I'd like to think of myself IRL as a thief type person, avoiding attention and gathering details for a specific purpose and acting on those details for personal gain...

While in games, I either play Hunters or Rangers... Long-range damage is hard to avoid at times...

as for the poll... I answered hunter/ranger as I believe it's closest to what the question was asking...

I always play Healers. Even in single-player games where I can choose a character class I always choose the one that can cast Healing magic.

Depends on my mood. If I feel like hitting things, I go warrior/knight/barbarian, if Spellsword is an option, I get to roleplay as Lina Inverse. Recently I've taken a liking to assasin/thief/rogue.

I had quite a few old RPGs that made being a mage or ranger unappealing because they were so underpowered & easy to kill. That might work for multiplayer, but it's no good for singleplayer.

Generally I like to think of myself as a battle mage, summoning down a thunderstorm while slashing my enemies under pouring rain with great two-handed weapons in enchanted platemail.

But the reality is, whenever I find myself in a videogame, I always end up summoning demons to go do the dirty work. I mean, that's really not like me, in real life it isn't something I would ever think would be right, but in games, that is the style that works best for me. Even with open-ended character progression where you can pick and choose your abilities, summoning demons is where I always end up focusing my abilities. So, I picked warlock.

Though, sometimes a combination caster/healer works for me, like a shaman, since healing abilities are usually overpowered. I don't recall seeing that one.

What is your character archetype?
I'd say guardian/paladin/whatever is my most often chosen class. This is mostly because I like melee, magic and the general aesthetic of the paladin.

I don't think it really represents me in real life. In real life I am selfish and a loner, not exactly the paladin type. And I'm pagan, which puts me at odds with organised religion. I'd probably consider myself in real life as a kind of mix between a thief and a necromancer. Still, the most important part of role-playing is, of course, playing a role and I think it's most fun to play a role that isn't much like yourself.

Which game best represents your view of what that class should entail?
I really like Guild Wars 2's guardian, it has all the necessary things about this class (healing, defence, justice, fanaticism, etc. ) without miring it with too many ties to a specific religion. It also has much more offensive capability than most paladins, which is nice. I also really love using faith-based characters in Demon's and Dark Souls.

I'm either a mage or a cleric, though usually the two can be combined in one class (offensive and defensive). To me, nothing is more helpful than being able to heal yourself and your team in tough situations. You can be as fanciful and flashy as much as you'd like with other classes, but you just can't beat the ability to heal yourself.

I tend to go for more offensive type things, though, so I voted for the mage class. Setting things on fire is something for everyone to enjoy.

I always play as a defensive warrior the first time I play, as it tends to give the best experience, but I also love a ranger/rogue cross.

I generally play light-armoured mages. In Oblivion and Skyrim I used swords and mainly fire spells, and in Dark Souls I'm a Pyromancer.

I usually play a warrior/barbarian or a mage character. I like to just go in a room and cause havoc, whether its with car-sized swords or by flinging fireballs...

Fighter for me, with two weapons using lots of critical strikes.

The best one was my Weaponmaster from Neverwinter nights 1. He had two kukris, and was pretty awesome.

The second close choice would be rogue, I like stealth when it's done in a good way.

Other: Sword and spells, usually a mix of offensive and healing. If I were to be one of the D&D classes, I guess it would be a dual-classed Ranger/Mage, with my high points being in Dexterity, Wisdom, and Charisma, while definitely going for finesse feats and the like.

Of course, that's merely a formality, since I would be the influential mastermind/general behind the legions of guys wrecking your day.
That doesn't mean I can't also be on the front line occasionally showing poor saps WHY I'm the boss, but I'd likely be surrounded by an army at the same time.

necromancers for me, i love just summoning a bunch of shit and watching it wreck everyones day, i always had fun going onto diablo 2 lod servers with maxed out skeletons and mages (with max upgrade this as well) and just swarming the fuck out of everyone in pvp

but failing that i do enjoy a good stealth/rogue type, never with bows though, always with blades

I either play mage or ranger. Bottom line, I want to be as far away from the enemy as possible.
I usually play mages or sorcerers because of this reason. I tend to panic if I'm too close to enemy. I like the feeling of beating the enemy, just not when I'm close enough to see the whites of their eyes. Also, it's fucking magic. A warrior can kill a few guys with a sword, a mage can take out an entire army with a typhoon or a meteor shower.

I guess, personality wise, this reflects how I usually try to stay away from conflict, mostly because I'm not confident enough in myself to think I can handle a hostile situation directly.

I kinda like the jack of all trades type. Bards for me mcinus the charm or the hand-holding. in D&D it tend toward Multi of Dual Classed Ranger/mage or fighter/mage/thief mixes . In Skyrim I was lightly armoured and maxed out my stealth first but restoration, destruction and one handed weren't far behind. If restrained in choice though I go for the sneaky rogue type. Finished Deus ex without killing anyone but the bosses.
