Poll: What could EA do to change your mind about using Origin?

Option C: I loathe online purchases and digital copies, and the last thing I want is shitty, bloated, and wholly unnecessary programs running in the background. They are poorly made and intrusive.

And when I go to the store and buy a real game like proper consumer and then have to have some sort of shitty online verification it makes me want to nuke the whole plantet while strangling someone!

the biggest problem i'm seeing is their attitude (and others as well) is how they're treating the market. By refusing to work with valve, they're pretty much picking up their ball and going home, and while i would need to see sales charts to formulate a proper opinion, they could do much better by releasing their game on steam for $60, and have the origin version be $50 and have extra dlc like a universal golden weapon skin. that would improve their pr greatly, and give pc gamers (as well as others) an incentive to use origin.

It's against forum rules to exclude anyone from discussion. The fact that you're writing in "Everyone who likes it, just move along." is a clear violation - we'll see how much the moderator likes you.... but you may want to edit your Edit 2.

Anyways, I don't really understand why people don't like Origin. I mean, I do, but if you're computer is connected to the internet at all, something (be it spyware, malware, or the browser itself) is keeping track of everything you're looking at, doing, playing, etc.

You should see Google's terms for Chrome... or pretty much any browser's TOS.

The only comfort I have that many of the things I've done on line won't bite me in the ass later is the fact that "I'm not the only one."

As a side note, a problem I DO have with Origin is that they don't have sales NEARLY as much as Steam or Direct2Drive or even Amazon - it's a common occurrence to see any given game on sale for a lower cost on any given website/brick and mortar store. This just seems like silly business.

Though getting Dragon Age II for $8 after I downloaded Battlefield 3 was a sweet deal. XD

Removed, but still not the point of this thread, which is to hear from Origin who don't want to use steam if they ever would if changes were made. This will show if it is people just being generally objectionable or if they, like me, have a proper concern that EA could easily resolve so we can move forwards.

The thing with privacy is it's out of control and not just with EA, obviously, but you have to draw a line somewhere. Saying oh other places are as bad does not help the situation and is rather defeatist.

I prefer Steam but i'd consider using Origin for some of my games if the ToS wasn't so invasive.

Look now. I have steam, with around 150 games and I love steam. BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ORIGIN. Guys, seriously. I have Origin and Steam. I have Bad company 2, Bulletstorm and Burnout there. I see nothing wrong with it. It's completely the same concept, executed well by both. The fact that all the games run without Origin running is even better. I don't have to launch it to play those games. I just used it to download. I used Origin with the bf3 beta, worked flawlessly. I don't see the major problem here.

My point about other places is that you shouldn't gang up on EA for it.

I agree that it IS out of control, but this is a place where the government needs to hop in and past internet protection/privacy laws.

Won't hold my breath on government action any-time soon. Until then I will gang up on EA as at the moment their service does something that other services do not. And it is something that it would not take them much effort to fix.

A big start would be to release things like Battlefield 3 on Steam. The fact that they didn't shows that they are willing to inconvenience customers in order to leverage a bigger market share in the short term, and cover there asses with thin excuses. I don't see this is the only example of that. Steam goes for a more long term sustainable business model based on customer goodwill. Because of that, it will take a lot more then another military shooter to drag me to origin, however good that shooter may be.

I already use it for FIFA 12 and BF3, if they actually want me to buy anything through it other than some DLC they're going to have to make the prices competitive with GamersGate (where I actually bought FIFA and BF3) and the Steam Sales.

Don't want ANY client, Origin or the other guy, running on my computer just to play a game. I bought the retail version CD and couldn't install it without being online. I'm not a computer guru and these game clients are just a pain in a donkey's behind. I don't have fast internet like most people and to digitally download the game is a very slow procees for me. As far as I'm concerned, I'll never buy another game that requires a client, and being online, just to play it. Beware! Big Brother is watching.

If they just got rid of their ability to snoop into your computer, I would like Origin. As their privacy policy is right now, all I've got to say is that I don't want Battlefield 3 THAT much.

No matter. Pretty soon Origin is going to flop anyway and they'll have to sell their shit on Steam. Not taking VALVe's side, but you just can't directly compete with Steam and their sales. $2.99 for Penumbra: Overture? HELL YEAH!
