Crap PC + DRM means I had to get it for 360. It's not my ideal choice but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

Is the 'Quick Save' Feature on the PC necessary?
I.E, do you have to spent large amounts of time driving to the mission again each time you die? or are their checkpoints on console version?
I'd say it's necessary. It's not always convenient to run off to save points and if you don't have a buddy to back you up, and I've lost half-hours of progress on more than one occasion simply because I forgot to hit the save button. The game also has a habit of instantly killing you if you fall too far, which can make trying to find some hidden diamonds and other exploration rather frustrating.

I have installed and uninstalled the game 3 times and this bullshit keeps happening. If I have to i WILL get a crack because if this is the result of DRM, my case is a prime example of the honest customer getting bullshitted out of their money. It works when it wants to work and not when i tell it to.

I got it on PC. Its a great buy if you meet the recommended requirements. It actually looks better than Crysis but has lower requirments. You have to remember though, the game was designed for consoles(because developers are tierd of getting their work stolen by pirates) so it is missing some stuff that it would benefit from (leaning, prone ect). Still, you definately wont regret buying Far Cry 2. Its awesome.

Check out my screeny ;)

FarCry 2 was never designed for consoles, stop talking about what you don't know.

FarCry 2 textures, graphics and overall performance are better on a pc that meets the requirements than on a xbox or ps3.
This basically means that it was made for pc and then ported for consoles hence Ubisoft involvement in this.
Ugh... I smell hypocrisy. I have read on loads of different websites that Far Cry 2 was made for consoles then ported to PC. I don't have proof but it definitely fits the game if you look at the lack of leaning, prone, weapon firing modes, holstering your weapon, looking at your watch, zooming in with sniper rifles etc (all that is hard to fit onto a little console controller) and not to mention the horrible way the multiplayer is layed out. I can't prove it was a console - PC port but my argument is definitely more plausible than "It looks better on PC" since every game will look better on a PC with better hardware than a console. So unless you have some decent evidence to show me then don't tell me to stop talking about "what I don't know" please.

Got it on the PC - because we've only got one (good) TV and everyone else uses it all the time.

Currently, I think it's a pretty good game, but it does have it's issues - the singleplayer is quite fun, but the Multiplayer hasn't grown on me - only 16 players and it has issues with the 64x Vista. And the game doesn't load in full screen - only in window. I tried updating my drivers (ATI), I tried the Alt-Enter technique - I tried editing the system and profile files in notepad - nothing works. It just insists on loading in-window, and anything I do to try and fix it just turns the screen black. And what's insane is that for the first 3 hours I played it, it was fine. It was only after I restarted my computer that I had problems.

Oh - and it has a widescreen problem similar to what Bioshock had.

But the game itself is okay, and I really can't play a FPS on a console. If you don't like potential technical glitches, get it on a console. You might be spared a lot of the frustration that I had. A frustration which comes with almost EVERY PC game that I've ever gotten (except COD4).

And as to whether or not Far Cry 2 was designed for consoles - I noticed something strange. In the PC version, you can save anytime, anywhere, no restrictions. In the console version, apparently you have to use save points and these little blue boxes on walls to save.

The thing is - why does the PC version have these little save boxes, when you don't need them? Why does it inform me "YOU CAN NOW SAVE A SAFEHOUSES", when I can save ANYTIME right from the get go? Is that a part of the console version that bizarrely made it into the PC version? Does't this mean that it was made for a console?

It runs great on a PC, by the way. But I do think it's odd that they have a console mechanic in the PC version. Surely they could have taken something like that out.

Far Cry 2 was originally planned as a PC game, but naturally Ubisoft changed the focus to consoles fairly early on in development (likely once the engine had been sorted out). The PC version does have better graphics, yes, but the difference lies only in sharper textures, better draw distances, and better shadows. None of these require any significant changes to the game's assets, as textures are often produced at a very high resolution and then downscaled to fit video memory requirements, while shadows and whatnot can be changed with a few simple tweaks (increasing the resolution from 512 to 1024, etc.). Compare with Fallout 3, which reportedly has better graphics on the PC, but the Xbox version was the lead development platform. Far Cry 2 has no prone feature, has no leaning, has mouse acceleration enabled by default and is impossible to fully turn off, has a nasty zoomed-in field of view, has a clunky interface with huge fonts, all hallmarks of a typical console-to-PC port. If you think the game wasn't designed for consoles, you're fooling yourself. Just because it looks better and performs well on PC doesn't mean that it wasn't built for consoles first.

Im response to the what was it made for debate. it was probably made to be an insanely easy port. so putting some console stuff in the pc code would help that
