ME1 managed to get the balance between completing a story-arc and getting a cliff-hanger ending (Sovereign dead; cliff-hanger = what will humanity etc. do next). ME2 seemed to be all cliff-hanger and no resolution. I want to buy Mass Effect 3 because of its own merits not just because they failed to complete a story-arc in ME2. Maybe I'm wrong but it felt like such an anti-climax (especially in comparison to ME1), and an annoying one too.
i hear that =/ the story was at a great pace but the ending was a lil disappointing.
the ending boss battle while being fun to look at didnt have much of a challenge and i think that "IT" is a very strange idea.. tho i get the diversity and strength they can achieve out of that

BTW welcome to the Escapist :D

Thanks! Been "lurking" about for a while, thought I might contribute a bit :p - And yeah I agree the fight was a little too easy (unfinished though that thing may have been). It does raise the question: what the hell was a human reapery thing supposed to do? Swim in space? Wander around on planets? Vulnerable to all kinds of attack? It looked like something from a 1960s B-movie.

Was a vast improvement over the first game. I still have a few complaints, but there are few games that isn't true about.

Could possibly be the best game I have ever played. Before this came out im pretty sure HL2 sat at the peak of awesome games but this squarely takes HL2 down and then beats it while its laying helpless on the ground. This game should revolutionize RPGs and let other publishers know that you don't have to sacrifice the hell out of game play and combat to implement story.

At first the streamlined weapons and lack of weapon and armor mods kind of irked me but as I got into the game I could focus on my decisions in conversation and actually killing myself while letting my weapons just do their thing. The game is awesome and that is all.

Well, this just might be one of my favorite games of all time. It's in competition with Fallout 3 as my favourite game ever. It might just when, noting that Fallout 3 has no Turians, Quarians, Salarians, etc.
Can't be forgetting Krogan and Geth. As of meeting Legion the Geth are clearly the best race. You just don't like them because they use their bodies like rental cars.
As I've said earlier, the Krogan are too much testosterone. It seems the ideal krogan does nothing but kill and hate other races.

Geth are machines that attack Quarians. I find no reason to like them.
I would have to disagree about the Krogan. In this game I think you see a side to them we have not seen before.
When you meet Wrex and he is trying to merge all the Krogan clans we see that they are not just mindless killing machines. Yes, they need to kill but hey, don't Humans have that side to them as well? We see with Wrex that he has a greater plan, not just to kill, but to return the Krogan to a past glory and bring a unity.
ME2 brings in many elements that the first did not have that just add layers to the story and the mass effect races.

I'm half way though the game and loving it with my only compliant being the scaning on planets.

Other then that the characters are likable and the graphics are a great improvement, I do however miss the mods you can place on weapons from the first one. Other then that it is awesome and well worth a purchase.

Pretty good, I'd say. I'm in the UK and got it from Steam so I unlocked around 12:20am, and was playing by about 1am. I finished the main story and a bunch of assignments (all loyalty quests done etc), and... I have to say I've had no desire to pick it up since. Maybe it's because I spent 16-17hrs basically glued to the screen with it, or something else, I don't know.

The story wasn't all that great IMHO, although I didn't expect a certain twist. But really? I'd say it's along the lines of a good, albeit small meal. I was left satisfied, but I still wanted more, but the will to pick it back up again has escaped me. It's certainly a good game, I won't deny that, but I can't help feel it's left a bit of an after taste.

I am the very model of a scientist Solarian!

Elcor Hamlet!!!
Mourning:Alas poor Youric. I knew him Horatio.

Insincere endorsement: You have not experienced Shakespeare, until you have heard him through the voice of Elcor

Call me crazy, call me kooky, but I reallly don't think it lived up the the first one. More than anything else, I consider ME2 to be something of a sad sign.

The killing part comes from a "disorder" that the Korgan have. I believe it's called the blood rage. Do Grunts loyalty mission, it explains a lot. Basically, when Krogan civilization still existed the blood rage was quite rare and individuals with that disorder were kept away. After the nuclear war that happened on Tutchanka, the blood rage became more common.

Also, Krogans have every right to hate Turians and Salarians. The Salarians engineered a plague that made stillbirth occur in 90% of all pregnancies and the Turians spread it among the Krogan people.

The Salarians are also directly responsible for the downfall of Krogan civilization. When Salarians first discovered Tutchanka and the Krogans, they advanced the technology of the Krogans by hundreds of years. The Krogans, still war hungry, used that technology for war which led to the creation if nuclear weapons and we all know what happens when people create nukes, don't we?

The Krogans have every right to hate Turians and Salarians.

They improved on every single aspect of the first game. How did it not surpass it?

I love it so far! My biggest criticism is the Citadel, you look out the window and it's all grey... where did all the shiny lights go?

But who cares? The Normady has leather seats!

The Geth are a sapient machine race that the Quarians built to be slaves. When they gained intelligence, the Quarians tried to kill them all. The Geth won their freedom in the resulting war. Now the Geth mostly keep to themselves, while the majority of Quarians are bent on destroying them all.

I find no reason to like Quarians.

Krogans already had nukes before the Salarians arrived. In fact they had caused their planet to fall into nuclear winter. The Salarians uplifted the Krogans; restoring some of Tuchanka and allowing the Krogan numbers to swell once again. The problem was that because the Salarians solved all of the Krogan's problems they never learned the consequcnes of their actions. They were still just as violent and brutal as ever, only now they had the technology to go into space. The Krogans were not ready to adapt to galactic society, yet the Salarians thrust them into it to fight the Rachni.

Mordin said that it causes only a 1/10 fertility rate so that would make it only 90%~

I think that design decision is more symbolic of the looming danger of the Reapers, more than anything else. It looked...bleak.

When I beat it the first time I thought "WOW this is a good game, my money well spent". On my second play through I discovered 2 things that have put this game in the same catagory of love that I have for the first KotOR. 1) Mordin's song (he did some acting). 2) This was a line that one of the crew said to the cook "Hey something tastes different about this meal, it's like you put in more food and less ass."

My first thought after finishing the game: "dude, fuck Final Fantasy XIII." Seriously, this is what RPGs should be. I hope Square is taking notes.

One of my favorite overheard-while-passing-through conversations was in the bar on Illium, where that guy was trying desperately to get into some Quarian girl's pants. (I guess Bioware really has been watching the forums. Heh.)

I'm loving it. I'm on my first play through and all I did yesterday was sit and play for, like, six hours straight. I think a game is GOTY worthy if it can make you do that.

The only thing I have a problem with is the mining. It's tedious and boring. Sure, some RPGs need some grinding but this is kind of going overboard. :p
