I just finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2 and... I LOVED IT!!!
Everything was improved upon from the first game. Combat was awesome, plot was awesome, and the characters were amazing!!! That and the fact that decisions you make before and during the suicide mission decides what happens. I'm already about halfway through my second playthrough and I still cant get enough.

So I just wanted to know what you think. I promise I won't annoy you if you think this game is bad, just tell me your opinion.

The only thing I ask is please only vote or comment if you've played the game. No comments based solely on hype.
I personally loved it. It streamlined the combat to an art, the story is amazing, and they have some really cool characters

LOVED Legion and Thane: A super-geth and a monk assassin. How cool is that?

My only annoyance with the game is the unnecessary inter-nebula exploration. The consumption of fuel and the bloody probes kinda ruined my explorer mentality.

Well, this just might be one of my favorite games of all time. It's in competition with Fallout 3 as my favourite game ever. It might just when, noting that Fallout 3 has no Turians, Quarians, Salarians, etc.
Can't be forgetting Krogan and Geth. As of meeting Legion the Geth are clearly the best race. You just don't like them because they use their bodies like rental cars.
As I've said earlier, the Krogan are too much testosterone. It seems the ideal krogan does nothing but kill and hate other races.

Geth are machines that attack Quarians. I find no reason to like them.
You obviously missed out on a part of the story in this, you should go back and replay the part with the Reaper IFF specifically.
I hadn't done anything with Legion yet.
Now I have.

I still don't care for Geth. Sure, they're not all evil, but I find it hard to like an emotionless race of machines.
Understandable. But you have to admit, it's an interested development... considering all you did in ME1 was decimate geth. ;)

it may not be the best game ever (though in my opinion it might be) it was the best expirience I've ever had playing a game ever, finally something surpassed KOTOR in sheer awesomeness.

I thought it was a great game. I wish it had been longer though. The combat had improved greatly, but other things really got under my skin, like the removal of the equipment tab. And the fact that you only get ONE setof armor for the entire game, and can't change you teamates armor (and cycle appearance doesn't count). And the small selection of guns in the game, and the fact that you don't have the option to switch them out before you get another gun of that class.

The story was top-notch (if not too short) and overall it was a great game and huge step up from the first one.

Odd poll, why is pretty good a higher rating than good? I would figure the opposite. But no matter cos it's pretty awesome. I haven't finished it yet, so I still have some issues with the plot that I hope are wrapped up nicely. If not, that would sway my opinion. But the gameplay is an excellent evolution of the previous game, the story is very intriguing so far, and it feels more solid and combative during fights. My only problem aside from certain questionable story elements is I think they went just a tad too far to cater towards the masses, with the over simplified inventory system. But at the same time I see what they did as clever, and it isn't annoying me. I guess I just miss collecting clutter lol.

The consensus here seems to agree that this game is fantastic.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel this a perfect example of how a sequel should be. Proof:
-Combat fixed; depth added, fast paced, fun now
-"Better" characters; they actually have personalities, most are absolutely hilarious
-Better inventory system(or rather, lack thereof); armor and weapon choices offered choices that changed upon preference of play style
-Improved side missions; not longer, but definitely varying is style and purpose
-Improved environments; looked and felt much better than original, atmosphere added ambience
-Game imports; previous actions visibly apparent, don't change much, but visible

After the massive pile of average that was the first game, hell I borderline hated it but my sci fi nerd kept me playing, I was going in with my mind blank albeit with a bit of cynicism. Now tat i have completed ME2, it has redeemed itself and ME3 is sure to get my money.

The story is a lot better with a lot more weight behind it, even if the bad guys felt underplayed AGAIN. It was still good, but the enemies feel so underplayed and seemed to have too much focus on these stupid merc groups and finding characters instead of imposing the idea of how threatening the collectors are. It's hard to take any major antagonist seriously if less than half the story has any focus on them. I don't mind villains being played out in the shadows and background, but the impact of the collectors and reapers is greatly lessened when only a handful of missions really focus on them when we should be seeing a lot more of them. Sufficed to say though, the story packed more punch, had better pacing (ME1's was abysmal), more intrigue, and just overall better presentation.

Characters are a lot better this time around and I actually liked them this time. The original cast for the most part were boring and felt there for the sake of being there, hardly contributed much to the overall grand scheme of things. This cast (and the returning characters) were better developed, more interesting, and felt more relevant. Returning cast came back better developed, more interesting, and were likable. A lot of the cast was interesting and the loyalty missions helped with character development and made them a lot more personal than the original cast did. Even Jack surprised me as I thought I'd despise her but I was proven wrong...Miranda though was straddling that fine line.

Gameplay is a lot tighter now with a more refined combat system. Allied AI isn't so useless now, cover system and gunplay mechanics don't make me feel like I'm playing gears of War lite, and the powers work a lot better. No more cluttered inventory and while the skill trees and upgrade mods feel and look dumbed down, they aren't. I much prefer this incremental upgrade system more than constanly having to micro manage and swap out mods all the time. The gradual increase of strength through the upgrades works better and works better. The skill trees aren't dumbed down like many think seeing as a lot of ME1's skill tree's would be you filling up dead space with points till you got to the REAL power. All Bioware did this time was compact that and make it flow better, so nothing is dumed down just simply refined. Oh and not having to spend point on the persuasion stuff and linking it to real actions was a far better way of using renegade and paragon levels.

I rather like planet scanning and the more direct planet missions than the stupid ass mako. Scanning, while monotonous, takes less time and yields worth wile rewards that help you in the long run with upgrades and such. It took less time and the little sub missions were a lot more interesting than ME1's constantly raiding the same damn warehouse over and over. I won't object to planet scanning returning in ME3, it works better and is more accomplishing than mako. Now if they bring back the mako and make it fun, then we'll talk.

Hmm..did I get everything? yea I think that's all I'll say. As someone who did not like ME1 that much, ME2 has redeemed the franchise and I am satisfied with an overall improved game. This game had the power to redeem itself with me, so ME3 will not be looked at with eyes of cynicism and uninterested by me. Good job Bioware, you have redeemed yourself with me.

Neeed... Mass Effect 3... Must. Save. Galaxy. From. Reapers.

Great story. Good gameplay. Keeps to the essence of Mass Effect whilst slightly tweaking the graphics and remaining inventive. Love it. Now to play it darkside...
Took the words right out of my mouth.
