I thought it was an enjoyable experience. Sure, there was a bit of padding towards the game's end, but that didn't spoil the game for me.

Also I thought the motion controls were fantastic. I don't know why people seem to be having issues with them.

All in all, while I still consider Majora's Mask my favorite in the series, this game comes pretty close.
majora is good better than ocarina of time but better than skyward.... the jurys out

I actually just came off from an attempt at playing the game. Didn't get anywhere on it. I just turned it off after a few minutes because it was annoying me. I'm really disappointed in this game so far. The feeling I got most of the time when I play it is irritation, not fun. Fi's hand holding infuriates me, the small world is really depressing, and the motion controls become tiresome very quickly. They work really well, but I really don't think they are necessary in a Zelda game. I just want to swing a sword with a button press. I don't want to have to swing my arms all the time. It's not immersive, in fact it does the opposite. It puts an unnecessary barrier between you and Link. The slow scrolling text is also a pain in the arse. I don't like the new races either. Also the puzzles just seem to be more annoying that fun too. And I don't like how you lose hearts so easily. They gave you more hearts at the start of the game to try and help you, but why? The system as fine before, why the hell did they change it? It just means I end up dying because I get a jump wrong, or for some other stupid reason. Also I don't like how the shield has health now. Again, why? I feel like I can't rely on my shield now when I most need it, in case there's something else coming up later where I'll need it more. The mechanic is stupid and pointless and does nothing but get in the way of the experience. A lot of aspects of the game seem to share that problem. I really like that they are trying something new in the franchise since it was getting pretty tired, but I hope they don't continue this way.

Also, people in this thread should stop proclaiming that one game in the series is better than another as if it's objective fact that everyone's agreed on. Because it's not. People prefer different games for different reasons.

there's a common theme with people and there game preference;

two people meet, person A prefers OoT, person B prefers MM:

person A to B: "you prefer MM, that's cool. it is a good game"

person B to A: "YOU ARE WRONG!"

maybe these will help clarify my opinion:

See, this is pretty accurate. The Wiimote was supposed to make gaming simple for the casual people and it is if we're talking about Wii Sports but this game takes it too far. I thought 1:1 would be cool, turns out it's a hassle.

If I find it easier to play Wind Waker on the "complicated" Gamecube controller than I do to play Skyward Sword on the "casual friendly" Wiimote then something is wrong. Truly though, this game is not fun to control. Luckily I never had the calibration problems that others had but if I had played longer I probably would have. I can't believe Nintendo released it like that. A Zelda game is right up there with a Mario game, Nintendo polishes the shit out of their top tier games but not this time apparently.

3) There is nothing at stake for me to care about.

The game would like you to believe that there is something that you're trying to save, but the village you're in is about 20+ people, and there is one single island in the game that's inhabited (no, I don't count the inn on the other side of the map). Point is, you're basically saving a village that never really feels the effects of what you're doing, unlike Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess.
Considering that Skyloft is Link's home, (not to mention it's pretty much the only area in the game where the remaining humans live) I'd say there is plenty at stake. Of course that kind of thing varies greatly depending on what game you're playing. A village that a character has no relations with may not be as important to him/her as say, his/her own village.

And what do you mean when you say Link is emotionless? I'd say he's the most emotional he's been in any Zelda game I've played. (Mind you I haven't played Wind Waker)

I really liked it. At first I thought it was okay, not better than Wind Waker, but really good still. Then I got to the end, and now it is probably my favorite game in the series. The motion controls weren't bad either, though I did end up flailing my arms a lot when trying to fight stuff.

I was ok, but I'm starting to get jaded by certain tropes I've seen before. I secretly wish that the hero was in a hurry to save his girl. I constantly expected Ghirahim to pop up unexpectedly to ruin everything, but that only happened at the near end of the game.
I also agree with the compaints of empty worlds, constant prove-your-worth tasks, bad flying controls.
It seems we like negativity when it comes to sequels. You don't see much of it with new IPs. Anyone pick appart Okami? I've only come across one person who doesn't like that game.

Personally, I like this game more than Ocarina of Time. Now that's not saying much, as Ocarina of Time was third on my list of Zelda games. So now Skyward Sword takes the third spot, and the Oracle games stay at number two, and Majora's Mask still stays my favorite Zelda game ever.

Now to talk about the game itself. I like the motion controls, and I liked the combat. Sure it was a little annoying having to recalibrate once in a while, but if you didn't flail around a bunch and actually swung like Nintendo intended, it happened far less than people are claiming. I also found the overworld annoying. That ends my list of complaints for the game. I liked Fi, you didn't HAVE to summon her for meaningless reasons if you worked out why she was wanting to talk.

This game also did something that only Wind Waker has done before, and Skyward Sword did it better. Re-fightable bosses.

TL;DR: I liked the game, but it's not the best Zelda game for me. Majora's Mask holds that spot.

I thought it was better than Skyrim. It was my game of the year.
I've only played three Zelda games, and of the three this was my second favorite, right behind Wind Waker. Skyward Sword reminded me of Wind Waker, as opposed to Twilight Princess which, from what I can tell, was leaning more towards Ocarina of Time (Which I haven't played.)
I really liked the motion control, I enjoyed the new characters and story, and I honestly think the Zelda games look better when they're bright, colorful, and cartoonish. The only big complaint I have was the backtracking, but it didn't ruin the game for me.
