Just saw the announcement for the .Hack//Link game and wondered what others thought of the franchise. Did you love it, wish death upon it, or didn't care.Did you enjoy the originals or the G.U series. Feel free to talk about animes to if you watched them.
I for one loved the series. The game play for the originals allowed the player to be on the front lines, cast magic, or heal. Then there was the ability to data drain monsters for items and to weaken them(except for those damn Twilight Guardians) at the risk of bad effects on yourself, rangeing from minor exp loss to a game over. The characters were a good bunch and I really liked Kite and his goal to save his friends. The story was good with enough suspense to keep me going and never got to wacky. Though Mutation and Outbreak(games 2&3) should have been one game due to Mutations short length.
The there was the G.U series. I didn't like this series as much in the game play department because even with the 3 different classes you had the were just variation and smash, smash, smash. You could do magic but when you did I kept getting my but kicked. The story I felt was gripping. I have never beat a 30 hour game that fast,I loved the story that much. It may not be original but it just kept me on the edge of my seat.
I think the animes of Sign and Roots were nice sidebars to the story of each series that fleshed out the charters and the World itself and Legend of the twilight is an abomination
