Reading the description of Very Hard mode seen at the beginning of the E3 walkthough vids I'm no longer particularly worried about the player being too OP, but it got me thinking what personal challenges/limitations on a playthough are people thinking they might set themselves for extra funsies?

The poll is just some ideas, but what else could there be people? WHAT ELSE?

EDIT: No nobody should read "Kill nobody", won't let me change it now though :(

I plan to do a no-kill run. I always preferred playing that way in the Thief series. It'll mean playing very slowly and carefully, especially considering my lack of gaming talent, but the art design looks so good in what we've seen so far that I doubt it'll be too much of a burden.

Seriously though, I don't usually set myself a challenge, certainly not on the first playthrough, other than get a perfect ending if it's that kind of game. I might try a "Don't kill any targets with basic shit, always use cool powers on them" kind of thing though.

Minimal killing (or zero killing, depends on how the game works) and no use of overpowered abilities.

I still think the protagonist looks hopelessly overpowered. Silent teleporting for cryin' out loud? In a stealth game? Time stopping? Possession?

Besides, what's the point of being sneaky if you can just murder your way through anyone who sees you? At least in the Batman games the guys with guns could occasionally think about maybe possibly posing a threat if they saw you.

I'm going with the true assassin approach.

Be invisible, infiltrate, slit your targets throat, and get out unseen.

At least, that's what I'm going to be trying to do. I can already see myself either hack n' slashing or making a dash for it whenever I fuck up. I just imagine it be so much more satisfying to skillfully take down your target rather than "run and gun", if you will.

To be fair, I think they're doing their demos on "god mode" just to show off the possibilities. Naturally, they go for the flashy stuff. What they aren't showing are the limitations, but they've at least said repeatedly that you can't have every power in a single playthrough. They also built in narrative and gameplay consequences for different play styles. I'm still optimistic that the powers will change the nature of the stealth without actually breaking it.

Since you play as an assassin, zero killing isn't going to be an option if you actually want to finish the game.

I'm going to go for zero collateral. Guards, civvies, and so on will keep their throats, and most of my powers will therefore be based around traversing the area most easily without being spotted.

When a game goes the Deus Ex route and provides the possibility for a "pacifist" run, I feel like I have to try it out. If I want to go on a murder-spree, I can close my eyes and pop in a random disc from my library. But pacifist runs are unusual.

I will be as stealthy as possible but I will kill my targets. Not the sell them to slave mines, no no no, I just want to flat out kill them. It's more satisfying.

Actually, the developer commentary in the gameplay demos made it clear that you can play finish the game with zero killing.

Whichever allows me to hear the most in-game dialogue... So stealthy, probably no civilian kills if I can help it (or unless i get bored) and spam the teleport and time stop like it's going out of style.

It's going to be Batman style, wait until all the cool dialogue stops before you walk in and start busting faces XD

Can you stop time, turn a guy who's firing his gun towards his friend then release time and get him to shoot his friend in the face? That would be so cool...

As for challenges, i'll end up exploring every inch of every mansion covered with guards because I get really annoyed when there's that one corridor I didn't check. I've even reloaded saves before just to make sure I didn't miss that +1 Sword of Mediocrity

It seems just about everyone is going for the stealth approach. So I'll do something different, stealthy, but slit the throats of everyone I come across! Well, it's going to be challenging to hide the massive amounts of bodies to avoid raising the alarm right?

Death and mayhem are order of the day when I start that game.

The same I do in all my games whether they have stealth or not.

What is the point in having all manner of ways to slaughter the masses if you don't use them?

Well I'll probably try to pull a no-kill stealth run. Unless the person is an unrepentant bastard or I'm caught in a bad situation.

Just watched the commentary all the way, and holy shit, you're right. Pacifist run, here I come.

Being handed a bag of guns and spells with a tag on the side that reads

"Don't kill anyone with these"

I would rip that tag off. While I like the option it gives some people, I don't want to limit my fun by never firing off my crossbow.

Dat crossbow. I liek it.

Kill everyone in the coolest way possible.

Seriously, I will analyse my options and choose the one that will be coolest/ allow me to say an awesome pun.
