That, or I'm just overly specific and picky... maybe that... along with a load of other people, no doubt >.>

Coke is a brand. Cola is the taste that all "X Cola" sodas have. So technically Pop and Soda are the only correct ones.

OT: I call it Soda. Unless I'm talking about specific brands.

"Brus", since that's what it's called in my language...
I never know how to refer to fizzy drinks in general when speaking English.

non-alcoholic beverage. usually i'd just say the name of whatever i felt like drinking rather than one name for all the possible options

I call it pop, so like 99% of people I know but after reading a bit of this thread, apparently its more of a Canadian thing, so that probably explains it.

But I don't drink pop, rots your teeth and is nothing but bad for you, plus I don't like the taste.

I'd be pretty annoyed too if people I knew were referring to soda as the leader of the catholic church.

It depends what it is that you're asking about. I refer to cola as coke, but I wouldn't call anything else coke. I generally refer to drinks by their own name, like lemonade

If I was pushed for an all-encompassing term, I'd probably go for 'fizzy drinks'

I'm from England

pop and coke seem to be the popular ones in England from my experience.

I normally go for coke. Pop sais to me a carbonated beverage other than a cola. like cherryade for example. for the most part I understand what people mean though.

I call it by it's brand name generally. If I can't determine a brand, I call it by it's type/category (lemonade, cola, etc), and if I'm referring to all types, the umbrella term is 'fizzy drink'.

From UK btw.

Soda in Virginia, Coke if I'm talking about Coca Cola (Cola actually only refers to a specific type of soda not all soda in general)

what do you do if you want to refer to any pop? do you just start listing it out?

"Do you have any Sprite? no? Pepsi? no? Coke? no? Fanta? no? Mountain Dew? no? Nesbitt Grape? no? Nehi Grape? no? Crush Orange? no? Dr. Pepper? no? Seven Up? no? Sierra Mist? no? Royal Crown Cola? no? Jolt Cola? no? A & W Root Beer? no? Hines Root Beer? no? Mug Root Beer? no? Goya Ginger Beer? no? Mr. Pibb? no? Tab? no? Squirt? no??"
I've never heard of most of these drinks :/ We generally call 'em by their name here, but if we're using a generic term, I usually go for 'soft drink'. The older generation call it 'pop'. I'm in Yorkshire in the UK.

I refer to it as soda/pop/whatever brand I feel like drinking. For example, if I want Mountain dew, I will say to my friend "I'm gonna go and get a Mountain dew" if I don't know what brand I want, I will refer to it as pop or soda.

I come from Leeds, a city in the North of England, currently living in Nottingham.

In Australia, we call it (or at least, the people I know call it) soft drink.
If we're refering to a specific drink, we call it by it's name (Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, etc).
