Well, I mostly play PC games therefore I have to keep the manuals because they are what the CD key is on.

I've stapled every instruction manual for a game I own together, and keep them next to my games, with sticky notes on the games I'm currently playing.
And I've been doing it since the late 80's.

I read it far less than I used to, but I keep them around for reference.
Like recently for DA:O, to figure out how to access the goddamn potion creation screen.

Manuals used to be fun little trinkets, beautifully illustrated and sometimes completely written in character.
Nowadays they're boring and seldom worth reading, since games have become less complex.

Actually i think it's the inverse. Manuals are less impressive because games have become more complex.

Instead of relying on manuals to get parts of the story across games can do that a lot simpler. In game tutorials so you rarely require more then a page for controls. I just think more of what we got from the manual is now in the game. Instead of a four page blurb of what is going on you get a 5 minute cinematic. Instead of an in depth walk through of controls you get a twenty minute tutorial.

Lots of my old game manuals are kinda dull and boring. Lots don't have any pictures past the cover. With the obvious exception of GameBoy Manuals.

That's just my take on it.

I tend to look at the pictures, if I pick it up at all. I like figuring things out on my own, even if it means dying a lot.

I read it, keep it for subsequent playthroughs, and store my receipt behind it in case anything happens to the game. (It falls out without the manual, and otherwise keeping the receipt is a pin in the ass)

I used to read them on my way home from the game store, since it was an hours drive away, and I couldn't drive at that age.
Now they jsut are not worth reading though, I always keep them though.

Well! I usually ignore its existence until I try to install the game and it asks for the 16 characters code on page X of the manual, or the second word of the third line of the 4th page of the manual :(.

I normally fry mine with a side of applesauce.
OT: I read it while being driven home. Or waiting for it to install. Or check to learn some of the controls.

I always keep game manuals.
If they're similar to GTA's or No More Heroes manuals I tend to read them quite a few times. Some of them are entertaining and quite interesting.

When I was little I used to draw pictures out of the Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 instruction manuals. But nowadays, I lose them.

I'm surprised that a lot of people never read the manual. I always read the manual.

I pull it out, read it, then put it back.

I will most likely read it in the future, or keep it out while I play the game in certain cases (Very helpful in Oblivion, especially when making a New Character)

I love Manuals.
