I was just thinking.

What do you like in a machine gun.

Rate of fire: The halo M7
Damage per round: Bar 1918
Accuracy: Halo Battle rifle
Explosive rounds: Can't think of one.
Anything else you can think of welcome.

I actually like accuracy and short controlled bursts over standard mass level blasting.
That said turning an enemy into a pin cushion of bullets still has its place.

All those poll answers are a plus to me but I can add one more...how the weapon sounds. If the weapon sounds deadly, i.e. has a unique sound like the AK-47 or the MP5(cod4), that's a cosmetic plus for me.

Accuracy, and a decent optical gunsight.

My co-op games with my mate happen either one of two ways, the moment he rushes into shotgun range the enemy drops dead with a bullet between the eyes, or the moment I line up a headshot the enemy flies backwards full of buckshot.

I prefer rate of fire.

A good example is the Laptop gun from Perfect Dark. It does weak damage, but its rate of fire makes up for it.

I like the ability for it not to be in my games. A gun with strengths in all areas makes the other guns too redundant in my experience. Team Fortress has shown me the light.

not a fanboy

Can't really put all of the favourite reasons into a four-choice one-pick-only poll, but if I had to pick...

I'd say reloading. Especially in tight situations, I seem to have a thing for seeing the character pull off what appears to be a very complex action of mag tossing, mag inserting and (especially if he makes it out to be that he almost snaps the thing in two while doing it) pulling the pin while running/diving in the thick of it in a deceivably quick time.

It's like a sort of "Can't touch this" thing. You sure as hell ain't gonna take me down with an empty gun once I start loading... Well, statistically it seems you won't anyway. Or at least cinematically.

What's the point in having a powerful gun with a high rate of fire when you can't hit anything with it?

I go with accuracy.

Wow, you really like your gun topic threads don't you?

OT: Accuracy is the most important for me.

A combination of ammo capacity, reload time, and rate of fire. I don't like burning through insane amounts of ammo really quickly and then having to take an agonizing amount of time to reload.
