Accuracy, mostly. I often favor close to medium range pistols, and go for a neat, quick headshot to make myself feel like a badass.

I voted "accuracy", because that's what I look for within the lame variety of guns we have in today's videogames :p
(I usually go for snipers in RSVegas)

But what I really want is:
-Really heavy mechanical stuff, cool shape, rusty iron and gears (not steampunk though), lots of moving parts, no biological stuff, no glass parts.
-Solid projectiles. No energy, acid or slow moving stuff (like rockets).
-Awesome muzzle flash (the more fire-like, the better).
-Astounding rate of fire with large magazine capacity. And I mean, really high ROF. Think 6000 rounds/minute.
-Loud manly noise. I want it to echo in the distance. I want animals in a 2km raidus to flee. I want glass to shatter and shockwaves to sweep the ground. :p
-Not much recoil. Enough to make it feel awesome, but not to make it unwieldable.
-Doesn't need to be very accurate.

I've yet to find such an awesome weapon in a game :(

What I look for in a virtual gun is style, which includes but isn't totally about it's appearance.

For example, the Railway Rifle in Fallout 3 looks horrible, but it's one of my favourites because of the unique way it kills people, and the Zhu-Rong pistol is quite a weak weapon, but I love it's 'broom handle' Mauser design and the way it sets people on fire.

I also dislike the Fat-Man in Fallout 3 for a style reason, it doesn't fit in with my play-style and I find it quite boring and even 'crass' to launch mini-nukes at people.

Power
I need something if I start shooting it, so shooting a stapler gun at them isn't going to cut it

POWER! Preferably high-accuracy rapid-fire POWER!. If it shoots clouds of seeking, explody fireballs, I'm happy.

I'd pick accuracy first, but area of effect is a REALLY sweet bonus. Anyone ever played Metal Arms: Glitch in the system? It had this sweet crossbow. It shot bolts that would stick in another robot, or a wall, and explode after a few secs. Add that to its accuracy, range, and power, and I'd say it's a pretty sweet gun.

Also, Experimental MIRV [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Experimental_MIRV] and Rock-It Launcher [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Rock-It_Launcher], whoo!

Power and range.
Rocket launchers, RPGs, force guns, Gauss lasers, impalers, person-mounted uranium explosive cannons, mini nukes.

For short range combat in close spaces, it's accuracy for me. Way more classy to land a single pistol bullet in my opponet's head than decorating the wall next to him with bullet holes from an assault rifle.

I look for accuracy. Since I almost always use a fully automatic weapon I at least want one that is somewhat accurate.

I love guns with a really quick rate of fire, but for some reason I hated the Minigun in Fallout 3. I guess because it was really weak and innacurate, but usually high rate of fire and a huge clip is my favorite thing in a gun.

Balance is the key, and the situation.

You see in Single player, RoF and damage is stragiht forward (You want highest DPS)

But in multiplayer, low RoF-High damage can be problematic due to lag and aiming. A high/med RoF and med-low damage can be good as the ****storm of bullets can panic your enemy into doing something stupid.

It's why I pick the M36 on battlefield: Bad Company. Lower damage then pkm (or whatever it is), but higher RoF and accuracy

ROF. I don't always have time to aim. I'll usually have an accurate weapon for when I can, but the rapid-fire weapons are my first priority. That and rapid fire weapons just sound awesome (ex- The Heavy's minigun).

i say accuracy is a must cuz its hard enough trying to hit a bloody b-hopper but a nice rate of fire along with power is also nice

If it's close range, it needs to be silent and have a high rate of fire, ex. the Silent Makarov from Farcry 2. Took out about 22 men with just that during a mission, didn't raise an alarm once.

If long range, powerful and accurate. I use Sniper Rifles for whittling down the enemy before they know i'm there in Free Roams like GTAIV, Farcry 2, or Fallout 3(As soon as i have the MS points for O.A., the Gauss Rifle is MINE.)

If a gun can get a job done, it doesn't have to have Bells & Whistles. for example, in Red Faction Guerilla, I COULD use awesome guns like the Arc Welder or the Thermobaric Rocket, but why should I when I can get everything done with the Assault Rifle, Nano Rifle, and Remote Charges?
