The first was great, the second was better, the third was a step down.

The Animatrix, particularly Detective Story was excellent.
I watched the Animatrix. I was never so confused in my entire life. @_@
Clearly you've never seen 12 Monkeys.
That movie wasn't confusing. At least not in my opinion, maybe you watched the "confusing-edition". I heard it's a lot more confusing.

Also, The Matrix is awesome! Animatrix was pretty good (surprisingly). The others were horrible.

The amount of times you said confusing there was confusing. :p

For me it has gone

The Matrix: OMG11!!! HE CAN FLY, AND DOGE AND THERE IN A COMPUTER? COOL.

Reloaded: Awesome he's like superman, and theres still AWESOME KUNG FU AND WEIRD CHARACTERS, but it does drag on with stupid crap in the real world.

Revolution: wait there's just more real world crap and bad CGI robots, all the imaginations gone where's the action and kung fu I should have gone and seen something better.

I like how you don't offer the "the 2nd and 3rd were good but the 1st sucked" option. This was a well thought out poll. I liked the first and the Animatrix. The 2nd and 3rd were just alright.

I enjoyed all three. Not all were as good as the first, but they were at least decent

The first one set the bar too high, and the 2nd and 3rd fell well short. Neither sequel was what I call "bad", but they just lacked the "pop" of the first one.

I liked all 3. Though the story went one a different tangent in the 2nd and 3rd films. The original Matrix seemed to have a most buddhist-centric theme about reality is just how you perceive it, while the 2nd and 3rd films were a more christian-centric theme of the quest for the Holy Grail. The 2nd and 3rd films contained a very high amount of symbolism, and thus went over the heads of the general populace.

If you approach the Matrix trilogy like you would approach any summer action movie, then of course you will be disappointed and a little confused. The first movie was mad as an introduction to the world of The Matrix and as an action blockbuster. Revolutions is more like a war movie. Reloaded is like any decent cyberpunk anime (think Ghost In The Shell). This is why people generally like the first one the most: it didn't rely on knowing anything about The Matrix like the other two, and it took more of a blockbuster approach, which the other two don't.

Here's a nice little link explaining one mans view of the trilogy, well worth the read:

Loved the original Matrix movie, one of the first films I ever got on DVD, but reloaded put me off so much that I've yet to watch Revolutions. As with the second Star Wars trilogy, I loathed the second one so much I have yet to watch the full series.

after the first one, it wasn't as original and it didn't give the same effect as the blast of action you got from the first one.
personally, i think reloaded was a let down but i didn't mind revolutions.
all in all, 1st and 3rd good, 2nd bad

I completely agree there. Reloaded was too fractured and all over the place. As for star wars, i actually saw Revenge of the Sith before i saw Clone wars, otherwise i would have been just as put off with that one..

1st: Pretty good, if a bit wordy.
2nd: Kind of harder to follow, but the fights looked cool.
3rd: The plot made no sense at all, and the fights weren't that good either.

First film was awesome and groundbreaking. To and three were pretty shit. The whole bible thing turned me off them for good!

Not being a fan of anime, I quite liked the animatrix.

I think the poll is correct, they all fail except for the first one, the second was bareable to watch though.
