I'll get the ball rolling with my opinoin first.

TVR. Mainly because there are few manufactures with such amazing style or speed at such low prices. Most of the cars they make were so ahead of their time like the Cerbera, Sagaris, Tuscan, Tamora and T350

No poll is to be found here it seems...

I'd probably have to say ferrari, simply because they have been around so long , racing and road cars, with a great pedigree and some really great cars and it's still going strong with cars like the 458 and what not. Personal opinion though.

Are we talking influence wise, quality wise or just what we think is coolest?

Ford. Even though I'm a GM man. Just have to admit they revolutionized vehicles throughout history. Plus they did know how to make a bad ass Mustang in the '60s.

Yup, Ford, followed by GM.

American car industries have been blowing for a bit now, but if you take in the entire history of automobiles, you have to go American.

Hard to say, so many level to pick from.

The one that came to mind though was Mercedes Benz. They have it all, the history, the class, prestige, yet some models are quite affordable. Not to mention there motoracing pedigree.

I will always have place in my heart for Auto-Union too, just listen to this!

And them in action!

I'm gonna have to disagree with the TVR thing, as much as it pains me.

Going back to the Cerbera era, they were badly built, unreliable and prone to rusting on any bits that weren't glue or glassfibre. None of them really handle properly apart from the T350C, all erring on the brutish and unwieldy side.

But fuck, they look and sound really really special!

My choice is an odd one.......Ford!

GT40
GT
Escort Cosworth
Sierra Cosworth
MK1 RS2000
RS200

Also, the Ford Windsor V8 engine, about as good as old school muscle gets!

EDIT: Warning, the picture below will cause major erections!

I would say the Pontiac Company.

The Grand Am and Grand Prix are just awesome cars and its hard to find someone with a bad thing to say about them.

Why's that?

OT: It may be cliché, but I'll stick with Porsche.

...in terms of influence in history, I'd be hard pressed to choose between Mercedes-Benz and Ford. Both were incredible innovators back when the automotive industry was young.

In terms of the "coolest" cars... GM in the 1960s. Only that doesn't quite fit, it was more the tuner scene that revolved around GM powerplants. Shelby had the best styling back then, but GM had the best engines and transmissions.

Modern cars, though... they can all go suck an egg. We need to rethink from the ground up, and current car manufacturers just aren't cutting it.

I just need to throw in a new one that I just remembered, I still love TVR but another company I have always loved is Lancia.

Ignoring what top gear say I have loved the company for a long time before they showed that episode. For those who don't know what Lancia is just look at pictures of the Stratos, Fulvia, o37 rally and the Beta Monte Carlo

Agreed, soulless boxes, none of which I can imagine being held up as classics in decades to come.

Plus, the German horsepower race, and subsequent price rises of pretty much anything that looks OK, to way out of the reach of ordinay folk is killing the industry.

What happened to cheap, fun, fast cars for the masses? Now, even a cheapo Lancer Evo is around 30k. £30,000 for that!!

Lol, a handful of great muscle cars and the odd truck and classic does not make up for decades of truly below average cars... American built cars just do not work on proper roads, they only work on straight highways...

I love the classic American cars but I think the best manufacturers are probably BMW for consistency, Honda for innovation, Aston Martin for class and Ferrari for thrills.

Best car ever? Hard, but probably the Aston Martin DB9 Vantage...
