NOTE: If you haven't read or heard of this series, then please don't post.

I've read the novels and I must say, its quite gory and really shows the effects of war. Though, the only part I didn't like was the love triangle thing. Makes me think too much of sparkling vampires and werewolves.

So, what do you think of it?

Not heard of this "The Hunger" series of games, any good?

[That was a joke]

[Aimed at your odd capitalisation in the thread title]

[In seriousness, I've not read any of them, but I heard good things].

I liked it. I also thought the love triangle bit was kinda stupid, but it did bring some hilarious WTF moments. The action scenes were pretty awesome, especially towards the end, and I loved what happened to President Snow and President Coin, they both deserved it.

I am worried about the movie adaptations though.

I liked it, especially the first book as it was more about a normal run of the event itself.

I didn't mind the love triangle, because to me it sort of seemed like a subversion. Sure, there's the model: 1 girl (Katniss) and 2 guys (Peeta and Gale), but there wasn't ever really a competition.

From memory:

Gale and Katniss were best friends from childhood. He liked her but it took her too long to realise she might like him back. Peeta adored Katniss, but she never really felt anything for him until right near the end, much of the "love story" is just that, a story for the masses who are watching the game so that the may win public favour. Peeta doesn't quite know this, but essentially Katniss is using him, and she feels bad about it.

Gale has moved on to another girl (I think?) by the time Katniss gets a chance to possibly be with him, because he thought the thing with Peeta was more than just an act, and even with definate knowledge it was all fake his feelings have already changed, so it's too late.

Then she spends a long time just focusing on the war and keeping her family alive, she even gets frustrated at Peeta's insistent romance sub-plot, feeling guilty for using him earlier and that she owes him something, but at the same time she's just not looking for romance at the time.

I got the impression that at the end of the book it wasn't so much romantic love that Katniss and Peeta got married, but that they were the only people who could understand the hell they went through, and that after losing much of what she loves she needed someone to take care of her until she could get back on her feet again.

I remember hearing that a lot of Twilight fans (drawn to the series after Stephanie Meyer said it was good and got quoted on one of the covers) being up in arms about how the later books focus so much on the war instead of the romance. I think the whole story was about the war.

Quite frankly grossed out by the "romance" bits if they can even be called that...It's obvious from the narration that it's all forced in order to keep the audience entertained (*hem hem twilight fans).

Haven't got around to reading past the first book, but I'm glad to hear she kept it going in the right direction.

I really appreciated her daring in highlighting the savagery war inflicts on children, and was shocked when I found out they were making it a film. Obviously, they're going to cut down on a lot of the more sensitive details, but it's still quite daring of the producers/studio to bring such an amazing scenario to the silver screen.

I'm more weary than worried about the film. Sounds like they're sticking to the source material quite well. The part that makes me weary was a picture of the two actors playing Peeta and Gale. Looked more like a ambercrombie and Fitch photo shoot.

Yeah, I saw a picture of who is playing Peeta and I'm wondering who made that decision since he doesn't look like he fits the character. And Gale, well, I expected him to look like a pretty boy, but I think they not only hit that mark but blew it up. I'm not so sure about those two, but I'm hoping I'm wrong and that they can actually act.

I've picked up the first volume and plan to read it soon. I've heard it's good, and the premise does sound very interesting.

My sister's been bugging me to read it, she always is reading the books, must've read the first book ten different times.

I have a love of dystopian societies, but whereas I love cyberpunk dystopias, The Hunger Games sounds like a post-apocalyptic dystopia.
